Was browsing lowes. and honestly for the price this seems a much better deal than the LED lights I just bought from costco at $40 a pop.

It uses 4 T8 bulbs. I found somewhere stating that t8's put out 2800 lumens? Is that correct?

I was planning on adding outlets to the garage in the ceiling but honestly this might be a better bet, and just hardwire them in, remove the edison outlet and have no wires or cords showing on the ceiling. These are recessed and are flush... If I put 4 of them in my garage there would be like 45,000 lumens if the above 2,800 per bulb is correct?

Just wondering on what people think. I think this would provide a much cleaner look.

Picture attached from someone that posted a picture on lowes site:

EDIT: This looks ok as well:

But doesn't look to be able to be hardwired since it has a pull string.

This one only has two bulbs:

Still thinking the recessed one would be better since I do have access to the attic space in the garage... Would something like that be braced or have to have a frame built or would it screw to the joists?

Thanks,
-Nigel

FWIW I put in 6 of these in my 3 car garage. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lithonia...rip-Light-TUNS-2-32-MVOLT-1-4-GEBHL/202193181 Gives me around 100 lumens per sq ft. These have better ballasts that give full lumens.

Keep in mind some lights have subpar ballasts. This means your 2800 lumen t8 will give off less than that.

Oh and those troffer lights will need a very big hole cut out of your ceiling to mount them.

There is no need to cut holes for troffers.
They surface mount just fine.
You can use a strip of nice wood to fill the side gap or they look fine as they are.

I thought heat would be an issue for surface mounting?

In a laboratory, with a reference ballast and perfect conditions, yes. In your garage, in the fixture you showed....No.

If I put 4 of them in my garage there would be like 45,000 lumens if the above 2,800 per bulb is correct?

No. The ballast in the fixture is an 88% ballast, which is standard. So, 2800 x .88 x 4 is the output you can expect from the lamps. Then, the fixture you showed will also lose about 20-25% of those lumens just from inefficiency, so..
2800 x .88 x 4 x .75 (-ish) is the "delivered lumens" of this fixture.
Good luck
