Worked on my new office cabinet conversion this weekend. Also an oak wall cabinet my FIL gave me. Scored big on Craigslist. Here's how it started.

I found some overhead cubicle cabinets for $20/ea on craigslist. They're about 4' long (each cabinet has 2 doors) and metal. They also had built-in fluorescent lights under them.

I had a bunch of card files and they are good (5" deep drawers). Used flat files for hand tools and sheet material. Recently upgraded to 8 drawer archive files with the dividers that partition off front to back.

And now.

I've outfitted almost my whole garage with office type cabinets. I love how hey look. I plan to eventually paint the black ones red/black to match everything else. I also have 3 Hon black metal bookshelves.

I think that filing cabinets are great for big items; like everyone else has said power tools, saws, and aerosol cans...and most can lock too so that your kids cant get into your paint/flammables.

I actually think that using actual filing cabinet dividers/folders can be a great way to store sand paper too. Easy to label and find the right grit! Also, keeping maintaince records and parts/tool receipts in a manner that you can find them is nice.

This is a dispatch style desk that has some filing cabinets built in. I would like to find a few lateral style (horizontal) cabinets for other items.

Picked the file drawer cabinet for $25.00 , they were asking $35.00 . My wife is the champ at working a deal . Was painted baby blue . Sanded, primed and painted with Rustoluem Sunrise Red. The shelving cabinet was in the shop at work . I will use it to hold the stereo and TV .

All in I'm at $7 on building this. $3 worth of cabinets, free scrap lumber from work, and a few odd fasteners.

On occasion, you will find library card catalogs that make a great small parts storage rack. My neighbor keeps one chock full of gun parts.

Got them in place. Be a week or two before I get all the drawers clean and prepped. Then gonna work on a bench top for the middle.

Very nice. I have Four 8 drawer card file which I plan to cut down and utilize in two different bench/storage configurations.

Did not want to spend that much.

Got two of these for $120. Ugly, but functional.

Little paint, some casters and a handle. Less ugly, more functional.

Paint did not turn out well. Turns out my kid went out and rollled more paint on.

I have a 2 drawer that i screwed bedframe into the corners and made a castored cart for it to sit on. Then mounted my 4x6 bandsaw on the top with some cheap lumber for reenforcement. The drawers are stuffed with power tools To counter the heavy saw on top.

What brand/manufacturer is the 4 drawer with the thumblatches? Is that a HON cabinet?
