Used Rotary Lift

Hi all, new to these forums. I just purchased a used two post 7000lb lift. I am told it is around 12-15 yrs old. The cables and pulley have been all replaced. It will need to be cleaned up and repainted if I want it to look new. It needs a new pump motor but has a new pump and tank setup. The guy I bought it from bought it with the intention of building a shop in his three car garage as he is a retired motor builder. Unfortunatelly he burnt his garage down in a fluke accident with an electric leaf blower with his two cars and three motorcycles in it. I got it for $600. Does anyone know where I can find the correct pump motor for this thing and maybe a manual for it. I have not picked it up and dont have an exact model number yet. Any info would be helpful.
Thank you,
Bill

No, the lift was outside, not near the garage when it happened.

I don't have the unit yet, will pick up this week. I guess my thread is a bit premature as I don't have much info. I saw the pump and tank and it looked nee , so I really just need the motor.... I think. I appreciate the help. I will follow up when I pick it all up. Seems like I got a pretty good price based on what I have seen out there.
Thank you,
Bill

I picked up a used AB1009 2 post P502 a few years ago from a local dealership. I had a lift professional come to my home and evaluate and aid in the set up and installation. My reasoning was if it was done correctly by experienced technicians it would be done right and gave me SAFE service. I have enjoyed the convenience and reliability of the lift ever since. My only complaint is I should have installed a lift years ago. Good luck with yours.

This won't be plug and play, wait til you have the whole thing in hand before you start buying parts. As far as I know nothing special about the pump motor, its just an industrial motor with some type of mount to fit etc.

Being twice removed from last place it was working I would make sure you get all the pieces, like the overhead limit switches, and have it looked over by somebody that KNOWS lifts. Maybe have them do the install if they will do it along with an inspection cheap.

As far as installation I'm not too worried about that, I'm an elevator technician and have built and still work on hydraulic elevators including roped hydraulic elevators which is basically what a lift is. I understand there are some differences but we will see. I of course won't buy anything until I have everything in my garage. I appreciate everyone's help and opinions.

The pump is good, just needs a motor but who knows if that's true. I figure either way, $600 is a good deal. Thanks for the link.

You will need to know what pump it has to get the correct motor, unless you replace the complete unit. FYI it may also have another kind of pump on it. From the factory it would have come with a SPX/Fenner unit, the Rotary service pump is the new global, made by rotary in house, the Global unit is aluminum bodied motor, if you look close in my profile pic you will see a global pump on the rotary lift, most others will be black.

This pump is all black.

then it will be either a SPX/Fenner or another older replacement from another manufacturer. Get a pic if you do not find a name and I should be able to identify it for you.

I did some more searching last night after picking up the pump and getting another look at the whole setup. I found an older thread on this site that had pictures of a lift the member was looking to buy. He had some info I guess and was thinking it was an SP55 or I think SP80. I found an exploded view drawing and it all looks like just what I have. I'm hoping it has some info on the back sides of the towers as they are on a trailer laying on their backs. I cannot find any capacity info on line, although my main need for this is to lift car bodies off their frames. I will say though, I tried lifting the top end of one tower up and it is extremely heavy. I will take a couple pics today if the wife doesn't have too many last minute Christmas Eve jobs for me. Thank you and Merry Christmas all.

Well that *****. I will see, not in a rush to get this going, I have two cars in there with the bodies up on wood frames so its tight in there. I'm starting to wonder if this thing is worth it. I guess if you don't have the money to drop in one shot, doing it in pieces is the only option. I appreciate the info and will follow up when I pick up the rest this weekend.

I see on the bottom of the cylinder there is a welded ring. I will assume that goes up and pushes the lift up. Does anyone know how far the cylinder moves up before the lift moves up? Im trying to figure out how high I can get the body of a car up before the cylinders hit the ceiling. I didn't realize when I bought this that the cylinders move up instead of the piston moving.

They will stick up at full lift about 12FT IIRR.

Rotary did not start making their own power units until they started making the global units in 2000s again IIRR, so even if that is the power unit that originally came with the lift it was never made by Rotary, It would have been made by fenner or another power unit maker, all of the info about a power unit is on the motor so unless he still has the motor I doubt you will ever make it work right.

Sorry I can't help you withg the motor, but once you get it working you'll love it. Install is fairly simple. The biggest pita is figuring out where to put it, what angle if it's in a larger shop, spacing from walls, benches etc. Put plenty of thought into this, measure 5x, anchor once! About the only other chore is hoisting up the posts, a chainfall works good for this. On a do-it-yourselfer stress level of 1-10. I give it a 6 or 7 at most. As others indicated once you have a hoist you'll never want to go back to jack stands!

I appreciate all the input. As far as the motor, it would be stupid to buy one even if it was not a cheap pump, as it may not even work. Why waste that money, JM going to just buy a new one. I need to figure out how high I can get a car body with a 10'-6" ceiling. If the car top touched the ceiling I would have 6' but the cylinders go up also.

Ok, I know it's been long but the towers are finally in the garage, been focusing on my car restoration. It's an SP84-8 Rotary lift. I have a 2yr old power unit I found and purchased. Before cleaning and painting I guess I should replace the seals, oh and the cables need to go also, the threaded ends are shot. Any ideas where I can get parts reasonably. I hate to have to pull the jacks and do seals but don't want any issues once I'm ready to use it.
Thank you.

I don't understand why the iPhone flips pictures like this all the time. I just edited the picture to be tipped to the right to see if it comes straight up now. Let's see.
