For those of us who have uses for pass through socket sets (struts, long studs, installing sensors with wires, ultra low profile, etc), Napa has a fantastic deal for both the 1/4 and 3/8 drive pass through socket sets.

They are $34.99 each (until end of June according to the ad)! Normally around $50+ anywhere else. I used a $10 off $20 coupon to pick a set up for $26 after tax.

These are completely interchangeable with the Craftsman pass through sets too, but have the longer locking flex ratchet and the longer extensions. Both are unavailable under Craftsman branding (and the 6in extensions are much needed over only the 3in that comes with Craftsman kits). Plus a few more socket sizes in each set!

The Gearwrench website lists them as having a 5 degree arc swing so I assume they are 72 teeth. That is similar to the craftsman and husky pass through sets since they are all made by Apex.

Ahhhh, that explains the price drop on these. I bet you see other retailers marking down the Gearwrench branded sets of these, because GW will probably be releasing an 120XP version.

Yup, I got it in the mail. I dropped the coupon on the counter and asked if I could use it on this set (1/4 drive). He said no problem and scanned it. Went through in the system.

They are pass through too! Very useful for installing sensor that have wires sticking out of them, but aren't connected to anything yet (oil pressure/temp senders, etc).

I doubt they will release a 120XP version. This isn't clearance, just a sale, and GW also pays little attention to the vortex pass through system as it's not that popular. There used to be nearly a dozen different pass through sets you could buy, and now there are only three under the GW branding.

These look nice, but I went a cheaper route as it will be a rarely used item. I got the Craftsman 80pc Max Axess for $58 and it also prompted $6 in points to show in the cart that I didn't really have. That made it $52 which I felt was worth buying. I was also able to use a $10 points back code.

I wouldn't buy anything proprietary...that's just dumb. I can't remember if the other ones are I've got the kobalt one that I haven't really looked at in a while I think they're straight hex though.

I'm just saying, okay...if the ratchet breaks you got a whole set of worthless junk you can try to turn with a pair of pliers pretty much while you deal with the mail man. It's so they can sell you a junk proprietary ratchet wrench for 20+ bucks vs. just use a ratcheting wrench you already own.

Last time I had an issue like this, the clerk implied I would have to pay shipping for a 'order to store' item. Why the F would I do that when I could just have it shipped to my house for the same cost?

Try reserving it for in store pick up or look for a corporate owned store (which are usually the warehouses that supply the other stores). The only time you have to pay for shipping is when it's not an item that napa normally stocks in their warehouses. That usually ends up being rebuilt car parts, as those parts come directly from the rebuilding source (which is often not owned by napa). These should be stored at the corporate stores and warehouses, so you'll probably avoid the shipping fee.

I have the Kobalt pass-thru version for the hex bits (which is no longer a pass-thru after the bits are installed). The lower profile of the pass-thru driver have came in handy on more than a few occasions. I tried to find the Kobolt pass-thru sockets later on but couldn't find them, so ended up piecing a metric and SAE set together from KDT (Gearwrench). Definitely come in handy from time to time...

Good to go - thanks for the info. I monkeyed around with the locations till I found a 'corporate' one and sure enough, they did have it in stock.

I dont really need this set, but for <$40, its one of those things I cant pass up, considering getting it online anywhere else would be nearly twice that amount once shipping is added in.

I guess my local store belongs to a different NAPA company. The 1/4" set is $87.75 and in stock. The 3/8" set is $111.60. Oh well, such is life in the country.
