I need a decent inexpensive snap ring plier set.

I have needed a good set of snap ring pliers for years but the good name brands seem expensive. Has anyone found a decent set that is inexpensive.

Lang is the manufacturer of some of the tool truck brand's sets. Their set goes for like 70 something dollars. Whats your idea of inexpensive?

K-D Tools 446 are useless.
The Craftsman / Channellock / etc. with interchangeable tips are passable.
The Snap-On pliers in the SRPC105 set are great so far.

I've got the Lang 12 pc set. USA made. Not as quick to change from external to internal as the quarter turn lever style (made by Strider) but identical to those otherwise. This set covers an excellent size range in 90, 45, and straight tip.

This. Cheap snap ring pliers are nothing but a headache. You want to spend the money on a decent set, and the Lang 12 pc set is probably the best bang for the buck IMHO.

I actually got the ATD set on advice from a thread here. I believe someone said they are basically the same as the Snappys but don't hold me to it. They have been fine for me.

For under $25, the Channellock or Craftsman interchangeable tips will suffice. For over $25, I'd go with the Langs.

I have the channel lock interchangeable mid sized set, hasnt ever done me wrong and I havent been nice to it. I have some HF ones and they are ok. Friend bought cal-hawk ones at the bi annual swap meet, we broke them in 10 mins..

You can put together a pretty decent set of Armstrong snap ring pliers from Cripe Distributing for next to nothing. I love the ones I have and haven't had any problems with them - I like that they're all locking reversible.

Just bought the Lang with interchangeable tips on ebay for about $11 and the 12 piece Kastar (Lang) set for $66 shipped. Both are nice. The only reason I might spend more would be for instant replacement warranty.

I have a cheapie Craftsman set with interchangeable tips. They're horrible. Tell you what- send me you address and I will mail them to you so you can be the one to throw them into the nearest body of water.

I have a mix of cman pros, Irwin and snap on, both fixed and interchangeable tips. they are equally nice for my use.

I'd go with the Lang set as well. I have the convertible tip Craftsman ones, and I don't really care for it.

Sounds like you got a bad one or bought the wrong set. I have the craftsman (channelock) that work great. I think the oe for them may be supplying truck brands as well.
