I need help picking an electric angle grinder I do not need suggestions about a pneumatic one please don't suggest those. I plan on using it for my automotive hobby and also working on house when I get one. What would you guys recommend thats a quality professional tool that would be able to grind off bolts easily (I do not want something that's cheap and underpowered). Do not need something that's huge because I need to be able to bring it under a car and have a good grip on it. I was looking at this one on Amazon tell me what you guys think and what you would recommend.

DEWALT D28115 Heavy-Duty 4-1/2-Inch/5-Inch High Performance Grinder with Trigger Grip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Q968EW/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I've got a couple "really nice" grinders and I keep them away from stripping paint and rust. I leave that to the 10 dollar HF grinders. Rust and junk will eat up the brushes and bearings and I don't care about tossing a 10 dollar grinder... Although I never have.. I have three HF grinders that see hard use. One is getting pretty tuff (that's the rust stripper one) but it still works.

The Dewalt is made in China. Look for a Bosch, Fein, or Metabo that is made in Germany. Not only is it German but the quality will be better imo.
If given the choice, why support China?
Because my DeWalt drills work awesome! If you watch this review the guy takes one of their other grinders a part and the quality is superb.

Bored of lame tool reviews? Meet DeWalt's 12 Amp Grinder part A:

Just have to be careful with the paddle switch when you pick them up, I've buzzed my arm a couple of times.

Is China *more* foreign than Germany? My Dewalts are years old & China didn't sink the Lusitania...

Besides, I want absolute maximum suffering for my dollar, when I buy Chinese stuff I want to know some peasant was working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week for 1/2 a bowl of rice a fortnight, using a RR Tie as a blanket in his cardboard box home which he shares with 47 other people.
I don't feel I get that level of suffering for my money when I buy German stuff.

Mainly I was going after quality. USA is my first choice but I don't know of any USA grinders.

Metabo and Fein get excellent reviews for their grinders.

I am sure that the German's take care of their works and provide safe employment.

With China you don't know what slave labor built your tool. How was there factory waste handled. Have you ever heard of all the air quality issues and high rates of on the job accidents?

Just all my opinion. Do as you want. The OP asked for suggestions and this is just a suggestion.

And yes my laptop was made in China.

My 2¢

Rat tail grinders aren't nearly as versatile as a standard barrel grip unit.

Dewalts are nice for the price (what I use). IF money is no object, then certainty go for Metabo, bosch or the like. Preference to Metabo.

if i was going to have only 1 grinder, it wouldnt be a rat tail type like you linked to.

i have mutiple 4" grinders, dewalt, hitachi, CM pro, and 2 HF orange ones.

i prefer the locking slide switch models.

I have the same exact grinder. You will need to get the guard for grinding as it comes with one for cutting, more enclosed. I beat the piss out of it and it takes it. From wire cups to stainless grinding it handles it perfectly. I want to get another so I don't have to keep switching around wheels.

What cutting wheels do you use? Hard to find a lot of 5/8 arbor stuff that's between 4 1/2-5".

To me DeWalts are the Chevy truck of angle grinders. The work good and they last. Every shop I worked in that had shop supplied grinders had DeWalts and they stood up fine. Person all I I have a 4" Makitia I don't think they make anymore and a 4 1/2" Metabo I bought simply because it was to crazy cheap to not by it brand new in the box. Personally I like the makitia better, but think that's just because I have a lot of miles with the little guy.

I use 4.5". I use what ever is around at the time. Usually it's Diablo thin kerf or recently I've been using dewalt cutoff wheels. But I don't use cutoff wheels as much now that I have a nice old Rockwell portaband.

It depends on what your using it for. If you tend to not use them rough and only need one at a time just buy a metabo and you will be very happy. If you prefer to have multiple grinders with different set ups available at one time(cutting wheel, grinding wheel wire brush...etc.) it may be better to get a couple 30-40 pricerange grinders and go from there. Sure it wont be as nice or as smooth (were not talking astronomical differences here) but it will be much more convenient. I personally have a makita and a couple metabos. the metabos are the 6 inchers and the makita is the 4.5. Ive used many grinders and the metabos are my favorite
