Modern Jess,

What's the part number on that SK? I've never seen that design before.

The model number is 3866. I have the same ratchet and it is probably the best 1/4" ratchet I have ever used. The mechanism is butter smooth with almost zero back drag. It was one of SK's palm control ratchets. I don't believe SK makes them anymore, but you can still find NOS units occasionally on eBay.

Bottom to top -
Blackhawk 24991 (coolest little ratchet ever made IMO)
Plomb 4751 (2nd coolest but they always seem to have a "slip")
No-name gearless

Hrmm.... I wonder if Tone asked Hi-Five to create that ratchet for them, or if Hi-Five decided to create their all-famous bit ratchet into a square-drive ratchet. In any case, it's a very tiny ratchet that looks quite nice.

I saw someone comparing their tiny ratchets with a Sharpie or one cent coin. I did the same with the Ko-ken Zeal.

Ok bit of an old thread resurrection but thought I would add mine.

Not as small as some that have been posted but considering its a 3/8 drive ratchet I'd say it counts :bounce:

Didn't have a one cent to compare, but turns out a quarter is almost exactly the size of the head.

Oh and the ratchet itself is great, its 'only' a 24 tooth but is super smooth, and superb quality and finishing as usual for Koken.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i don't think they ever made a ratchet in 1/8? have been contemplating the 5 or so sockets and driver they do in that size though as they seem to still list them.

This Wright 3/8 drive ratchet is probably smaller than most of the 1/4 drive ratchets posted in this thread. Lol.

Thanks Ratchet, I checked the given link and it was unclear. Or I missed it. I wanted to be sure. It would interest me, as I like SO for it's strength in the 1/4.

BTW: I have the Koken Zeal 1/4 rat listed in this thread. FWIW: I find it an outstanding value for about 50$. A game changer for me in how I consider Japanese tools.

that has a tiny head.. makes you wonder how is there any room for the gear, have you had it apart, if it comes apart that is?

yeah, there was a misleading thread on here a while back, the op mistakenly thought 1/4 drive was 1/8

I may see if i can order the four 1/8 drive sockets and driver that they do make though, assuming that they aren't horrifically expensive, been looking on ebay etc a while but yet to see any second hand ones for sale, guess not many people bought them.

Not bad at all, iirc that little 3/8" drive i posted cost me around £35 so so not far off $50. They are very good value for the quality of them, on par with if not better than the best US and European makes.

Stanley Yankee ratchet kit I picked up today next to a Snap-on and Proto 1/4" for comparison.

That photo was from member Ricleh. His stubby Nepros ratchet is a 36-tooth model (nearly identical to Snap-on's own 36-tooth mechanism)

Ratchet Guy,

Where did you purchase your ANEX branded bit ratchet?

Here are my smallest/stubby ratchets:

I recently bought the entire 1/4" set of the Z-eal tools. I already had the 3/8 and 1/2 sets, but the 1/4 ratchet and sockets seemed to be even more reduced in size than their 3/8 and 1/2 counterparts. I would not use a 4-foot muffler pipe to torque down on a Z-eal socket or ratchet, but for use in confined spaces the Z-eal tools are second to none.

I agree. Their 1/4 drive socketry boasts some of, if not, the most compact dimensions available in the market today.

Initially, the Wright 3/8" 3430 intrigued me a lot, but upon receiving them, was appalled by the condition it was in. Really am not sure what happened, but I was forced to return this little one. Could it have just been a dud?
