The top is probably a thin sheet of SS over MDF. I would contact NewAgeProducts through their website to find out for sure. Maybe they put it over their bamboo top, which would be better. But they aren't forthcoming about that or the thickness of the SS.

I have a Craftsman workbench that I bought a long time ago that has a similar top. It has held up just so so but I weld on it occasionally so I'm not surprised that it's a little wonky. But it's MDF under the stainless. Constant clamping will wear it out eventually.

it says 16-19 gauge steel in description. 1.25 " thick top

1.25" total.. not a sheet of 1 1/4" stainless (which would cost several multiples of that retail price by itself).

It's probably 20 ga. sheet folded over a piece of MDF as others have already stated.
