Snap on impact ct6850 service/ rebuild

I picked up a s/h snap on ct6850 with weak batteries ,it was cheap and the deal included the 18v drill as well , the impact works ok but I'm wondering if it would benefit from a service ? Any thoughts guys?

I will rebuild the battery packs as soon as I get new cells , can't make my mind up whether to buy new cells from eBay or buy a new cheapo 18v drill and break it down for the cells , either way the cells are of unknown quality but the price is much the same ,

Cells are nicad on that I believe. I had mine redone by batteries plus for 50/battery and it was well worth it.

Snap on will service it for 100 bucks plus parts. Mine the trigger was messed up and wasnt variable. They also replaced the anvil on mine and put new brushes in.

Run it with good batteries before you make that decision. Most of time those impacts are still strong, even when they are totally ragged looking. If not, the Snap-On flat rate rebuild is your cheapest way to go, they'll give it new "whatever it needs", including housing, hammer cover, anvil, motor, switch, and on and on. Just the motor is 60 bucks for those.

Forgot to add, when I had the batteries done I had them do NIMH. 2 years now no issues.

Does your charger cope with NiMH ? They have different charge rates , I read somewhere that it can cook the batteries

Haven't had an issue yet. My charger is the newer one that takes both slide on and push in battery

He's talking about the CTC620 charger, it's made for ni-cad and li-ion batteries. No idea how that would work on ni-mh- but I ended up with one that someone had rebuilt with those cells one time,and it wouldn't charge for me , when I took it apart that's what I found..
