Modular stand

Toying with the idea of a modular stand for my bench grinder, 10-11" drill press, and any other tools like that. Mainly I don't want to have to keep putting tools on the bench and taking up space.

What I was thinking of is welding a pole to a spare and have base plates that I can swap the tools out to or weld one plate on the top and have holes for each tool drilled into it.

Trailer receiver mounted to underside of workbench or welding table, tools mounted to 2" tubing. Slip it in and pin it, done.

Unless you have very limited floor space, I always found it was better to have each often used machine on it's own stand. The time wasted in frequently breaking down one machine in order to use the base for another machine just was not worth the effort and frustration. It's difficult to get any work done when you are spending a large part of your time changing out machines.

I have one of these and it's incredible. In addition to making any tool portable, you can add the mounts to any tool and just snap them on and off.

The only catch is that getting extra mounts for this cart is a bit expensive. (Rigid gouges us on these.) You can get the same thing from other brands and I've been wondering if the others are a little more reasonable on the additional mounts.

but with something like a drill press, you'd me limited to like 2 attachments, unless you stored more elsewhere.

What about some sort of rotating head on a stand. Think engine stand with square head, one tool mounted on each surface, index 90 deg for each...

But no matter how creative you get, nothing is better than having a dedicated stand for each tool.

I just use this old HF stand for my modular but really any old stand will do .

Those are some awesome ideas but lack of tools keep me from making stuff like that.
