Looking good Tacoma bo

Silver: I see two holes for jaw screws that are either plugged with old broken off screws or some other material on your dad's old Columbian vise. Several members here can make you a new pair if you ask and provide measurement.not sure cost or there were a lot of those vises made and maybe you can find a used set. Looks ok other than missing jaws. You big 6 incher will need maybe a heavier bench to mount it on or you'll need to bolt bench to studs or floor.
Wow, what a beatdown...![]()
you have to admit it doesn't have an anvil so I was thrown a bit.
Silver, for a lighter vise like that I'd make some smooth jaws out of some harder aluminum alloy. Straight drill and countersink for mounting holes, once you get the screw holes unplugged. (easy out?)
Get fancy and put a vertical V in one and a horizontal V in the other.Looks like it was a 4.0 Barely enough to wake a person up...![]()
If it wasn't for all of the vises in Zoomie's workshop, keeping the ground settled, it would have been much worse![]()

Here's to the next 1000![]()

:please everyone please send your good thoughts my way. a guy called me about a tool I'm selling and I told him I restored vises. He said that he wished he met me this morning because HE HAD JUST DELIVERED THE VICE PICTURED BELOW TO THE LOCAL SCRAP YARD!! A FREAKIN PARKER 58 ON A CUSTOM BASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
He knows the owner and he said he'd go there first thing Monday to retrieve it if possible. It is 5 miles from me and it has been in his family for years.
Oh Jesus I'm dying here, DYING I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Tell him if he wants to atone for his sins, he has to get you the Parker and relinquish custody the Simplex I see on the workbench on right side of the picture![]()
I called him, he's selling me that smaller vise for scrap price. he said it needs work. good catch. thanks
More importantly, what about the press? He can scrap that this way if he likes.
Jim
It was a Dake. 1944 vintage. He cut it and scrapped it.
He loved it. But couldn't move it.
****, I hope you're able to save the Parker.
Picked this up the other day. I posted it in it's own thread...but besides a few nice comments...it didn't get much love...![]()
Figure I'll add it to the "pile" here...
I picked up a York 125 last week as well. Lovely vises. Yours looks nice and clean.
Thanks..it still has a YORK label on the front of it.
How were you able to determine it's a 125? I can't find any model number on mine.

Why do people do stupid stuff like that with usable tools?? I hope he did not procreate in order to pass the idiot gene down to his kids?? Why would you not advertise it before you can it ?Picked this up the other day. I posted it in it's own thread...but besides a few nice comments...it didn't get much love...![]()

Here is my pair of vises. Columbian 606 and D45. I have no idea their age, but can only presume old. The 606 I bought last week and already love it. Just need to formulate a plan to mount it and be able to utilize it like it should be. The D45 I was given by my father when I first bought my house/shop; it's just lag bolted to my workbench. I will probably re-mount to it's own stand and allow it to be mobile for light duty use.
Any information on the age of either will be greatly appreciated. The D45 I presume is pretty old, some of the other D45s on the net have 5-1/2" cast into the dynamic jaw; this one only has D45. Also I find it strange that most other D45s have screw on jaw inserts, and mine doesn't even have holes for screws. Anybody have an idea how to toss some inserts on that can take some abuse? The 606 is probably as old as, if not older than the D45; I got it from my parents' neighbor along with a lot of really old tools.
