I stopped at a home depot today to check this out and found a very beat up obviously returned high torque impact for $55. I was worried it would be trashed but when I got out to the truck it looks like it is brand new. Haven't been home to try a battery in it yet though.

I was all set to go to a few different home depots as I'm just starting my M18 collection. But then I checked the computer and saw there was 44 clearance items in the store I was in. However, I don't think they stock any of them so like it was said earlier you just have to get lucky with a return. So I really got a GREAT deal but I don't think it's worth driving around looking for because the chances are slim to none.
The
January 12 is not really old enough to have gone penny staus. It might be at the next lower level though **.03 or **.02.

For penny deals, look for items with clearance tags dated 9/2014 or earlier. Some 11/2014 and 12/2014 tags have gone penny status as well, but not the majority of them.

It also depends on the specific department as well. For instance I have noticed bath/kitchen faucets take longer than usual to hit **.03 and penny status.

So buy these items at a HD that stocks them... Return them to a store that doesn't... Wait a week and hope you get an awesome deal?

Kinda seems a little sketchy to me now that I think about it.

It's not employee pricing. I see the same screens at some of my Home Depot stores. (Southern California)

It seems like the Home Depots in my area very seldom post the yellow clearance stickers on the clearance items. And if you ask a sales associate about clearance items, they claim that they don't know what is on clearance. I have a funny feeling that the associates are purchasing these items for resale later. There are sellers on craiglist and ebay in the area, that sure have a plentiful supply of items for sale that look like they came from Home Depot.

Usually if you are looking for something, you can find it cheaper at Menards than Home Depot anyway. Menards seems to have a lot more items marked for clearance than Home Depot.

This is my experience exactly.
Yesterday, I was in the tool section looking up at the upper shelves. The nice man asked me if he could help me find something. I told him that I was just looking for "yellow tagged stuff". He looked at me like I had 3 heads and asked me what yellow tags were. "Clearance stuff", I said. He directed me to the aisle end cap where they had all the junky el-cheapo stuff. Wall plates, paint brushes, old light bulbs.....
I also asked the customer service desk and they gave me the stink eye, too.
They get nervous when I jump on their computer and just stand there for a half hour looking for stuff. I've yet to find any clearance item in the store computer that they actually have in stock. Been looking for a few months now.
It's a drag, because I'm jealous of all the deals that you guys are finding....

Oddly enough Ive never gotten any grief from my 3 or 4 local stores by using the price check computer. One store even has a computer right when you walk in the main entrance which Ive used in front of plenty of associates. Never a word.

On the flipside, those are also the stores that seemed to have wise up about making sure their clearance stuff actually clears out quickly. Once I got the DeWalt miter and table saws, I havent found anything else (Dremel stuff, Milwaukee stuff, etc).

It was fun while it lasted, though!

My local store also wants to clear out clearance stuff ASAP, at least the tool guy wants to.

When I come in, he checks his price tool for clearance items for me, shows me what he has, and tells me what to be on the lookout for, that he can't find. He even helps me look, time permitting.

Yesterday for the first time ever I had someone run me off a computer. "Not on my computer!", she was very animated and rude about it. I believe there is a response letter from HD corporate saying that customers are allowed to use the computers, I need to try and find that.

The Dewalt table and miter saws were put on clearance with the rest of the Black Friday promos and other items as well. Just the shear amount of items on clearance at that time made it easier to find them.

Now it appears majority of the TOOL-deals are from stores adjusting/changing what inventory they carry. Stores with smaller Milwaukee displays dropping some of the Fuel items and stores with smaller Makita displays dropping some of those items as well.

Lawn and Garden had a big clearance of Ryobi and random grilling things at the start of the season but that seems mostly over now.

I guess we can expect to see an A/C and fan sale in the coming months as room is made for BF inventory

Forgot to mention my score, FINALLY one of my stores dropped the price on the 18v X2 Makita circular saws to the $58.03 price. This was nearly a month after I started reading about other stores in the country doing so. I got the last one, they had about 8 less than a week ago when it was at the $180 price point.

I'm just glad I got one, I have checking on that damn thing on clearance since February and had been checking weekly just for it. Some of the stores (one closest to my house) even took it off clearance!

I don't know whats going on but one HD is putting Ridgid and Milwaukee tools in this dark area of the power tool area. They are not in the open area where the rest of the tools are. This could just be because my local store is smaller than most newer HD's though.

I was in my local BORG a few days ago and noticed that two Milwaukee end caps on the main drag have been removed. One was near the registers and the Fuel one was near lumber and the pro desk. We do still have the big display in tools so it's not all gone. I'm hopeful that they are just going to reset one with some deals for Father's Day.

I just used the HD online customer service chat and the customer service person said customers can use a store computer.

Just a theory... I think they are doing away with the more expensive Fuel brush less in all but the higher margin, central location, higher traffic stores.

I think they will sell the "low line" brush less in most of the other locations

And the brushed tools in all locations

Anyone know of any stores that still have red/black handle Milwaukee linesman pliers? Just in the past three weeks, I've been to no less than nine stores in three different states, and one Canadian province, with no luck.

I just bought the last set at my local HD. I like all the old handle pliers. I have a few in my tool bag and they are bullet proof. I am now on a Milwaukee locking plier buying kick. They are fantastic for the money. Just an FYI. All the new red handle stuff besides the slip joints are now china made. I just bought the linesman and the 8" side cutters. The price was only like 5 bucks off the regular.

How the hell do you get out the store with a penny deal?? I rang one up at self checkout and the ******** thing said "wait for attendant". They wouldn't let it go. It was a Toro trimmer forgot the SKU. Managed to get 3 different Ryobi trimmer power head models for 20.03 to 30.03

I've tossed a nickle at a confused cashere and told him to keep the change and walked out the door.. i did this with the dewalt mitre saw.. it's best to use the register closest to the big doors when using this approach:)

Hmm I wonder if that is a new thing, usually I scan and put a penny in then press pay now.

I probably would have if I didn't also have 4 other clearance items with me...2 Ryobi power heads, 1 straight shaft trimmer, and 1 curved shaft trimmer, plus the penny Toro trimmer. They actually have 3 of these penny Toros.

Two methods to avoid the dreaded "wait for attendant" message.

1. DO NOT SCAN the yellow clearance tag. Only scan the UPC that is printed the box.

2. Do a price check scan on the item first. Then press "add to purchase" button.

If for any reason you mess up and the "wait for attendant" message appears, just walk away or tell the attendant that you are not ready to purchase yet. Then come back a few minutes later and try again.

Local HD stores in the Twin Cities seem to almost never have any substantial clearance deals. Yesterday I was able to purchase the older 2695-24 Milwaukee 4 Tool set (the one that has the compact drill instead) for $100.30. One store had clearanced out their stock while another still had 2-3 still at the $399.99 price.

There is a store in Rocky River Oh. They have about 6 in stock.

Do you have the SKU?

Were the other attachments (tiller, Brush Cutter etc.) on clearance also?

154622 straight shaft gas trimmer $33.03
997255 curved shaft gas trimmer $25.03
Ryobi expand-it power head $20.03 (no longer on the website) model RY28101 I don't remember what the SKU is, the receipt doesn't show SKU numbers

I gotta stay out of HD. I'm addicted to buying red and black stuff that I don't really need.

Wait... I take that back. I'll stop after I get some of those new, deep tray organizers.

At a few stores the attachments are on clearance. Out of the 5 stores near me, only one had them on clearance.

Wow, they probably alerted the store security but you left before they could do anything. In the future I wish you good luck explaining clearance policy to the police.

Maybe he could get one of these attorneys that likes to work at HD for $10/hour in their spare time to represent him.

Alert store security and explain what to the police? It rang up as one cent, he gave them a nickel and left. Is it against the law to not wait for a receipt?

You're right on that. I checked Somersworth as well.

Did you buy everything up? The Price Checker app says they still have 2 of 154622 & 4 of 958072. I couldn't find them anywhere, but I'm not sure how quickly their database reflects quantity changes.
