Mitsubishi Improves Ductless Warranty

I'm about to have a 15,000 btu Mitsubishi ductless installed in my house. A memo to contractors/installers went out on the 21st outlining Mitsubishi's new warranty:

Units installed after April 1st that are installed by a Mitsubishi Diamond contractor now have a 12 year parts and compressor warranty.

Installed by a licensed contractor: 10 years on parts and compressor.

All otherwise 5 years on parts and 7 on compressor.

This is for M and P series units.

Hope that's helpful for anyone considering a Mitsubishi ductless. That's a pretty awesome warranty.

I'm not connected to Mitsubishi other than I'm getting one and am passing on the info.

So does that mean that a DIY install with a pro doing the start-up it would be a 5/7 warranty?

Let me add that I got a call today informing me that Mitsubishi is giving a $200 instant rebate on their units. Along with the $800 rebate from the poco and the $300 tax credit, this unit has become pretty affordable in my opinion.

Still more expensive than any of the others and more so if having it installed vs. dyi.

Nice warranty, though!

Just had a sub panel added to garage to support welder and mini split. This is so tempting.

Just an update that I am in the process of doing this so I contacted Mitsubishi Comfort via the chat feature on their website. The rep informed me that a licensed HVAC contractor is required to get any form of warranty coverage, the rep stated it is 10/10 for a general HVAC contractor and 12/12 if it is a Diamond Dealer.

Thanks for the clarification. I had my 15k btu Mitsubishi installed today. Man is it quiet.

Diamond installer is filing the 12 year warranty with Mitsubishi this week. Install was beautifully done.

What is happening in the industry is that manuf are requiring that their equipment be registered on line at the time of installation. When you think back to the "old days", fewer than 5% of warranty cards were returned to the manuf. the Internet has smoothed this out some, but it is still difficult to get contractors to do it even on-line. The bigger more organized companies with the staffing are pretty good at it, but the smaller shops, after working all day...the last thing you want is to get on-line and do paperwork. As a result, some manuf allow the homeowner to register the units. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR COMPONENT MODELS AND SERIAL NUMBERS RIGHT or else!

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Jack!

Yeah, I'm checking that right now!

The local company I worked with has about 140 employees and seem to really have their sh!t together.

You will like the system. Speak with the tech on cleaning requirements.
