$4500

Includes:

30x40 site prep.

Need to remove 23' x 10' concrete slab to get correct slope to garage.

one corner is 10" higher then the other corners so some grading is needed to get water to run away correctly

Price also included gravel put in for floor where the concrete was until I cement next year. They also will move dirt around sides to make it look finished.

Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks

I think you need woman in your life to manage these micro decisions you ask about.

Around here an excavator and operater runs $500 a day. How many days do you think it will take? You will be impressed how much a good operater can get done in a day. Keith

Sounds like a lot.
I reckon the work I had done for my slab and driveway was very similar and I don't think it cost me much more than $1500.
Is there good truck access? I would have thought a decent sized skid steer would be a better machine for the job cause he can zip around and change direction quicker.

Well, maybe this could give an idea. I got three bids for our home project, lowest was over 11000 dollars. It includes digging for foundations, rain drains for the gutters, gravel in the crawl space, 130 feet of rock 10 feet wide to the shop ,with fabric, and filling in for the garage floor after foundation is poured and prepping the lot for the yard, about 3/4 acre of yard I'd say. Also, trenches for electric, well and septic and running pipe from both to the house for the plumbers to hook up. This has good truck access.

Import/export is where the money is at.

Did they do a cut/fill balance calc? How many yards are coming and going?

$4500 seems pretty reasonable, but no way to tell with out more info.

In a rural area, on 35 acres, with a fill site and gravel pit 2 miles down the road, that's probably high. In the inner city of Milwaukee, that's probably a heck of a deal..........

I wouldn't even start the machine for 500 a day.

That's fair. You really need 800 per day minimum to run heavy equipment.

Excavation contractors are a dime a dozen around here, they're killing each other. The only way to know where you stand is to get another quote or two and see.
