Good deal on a Bridgeport?

My gf's father is looking to sell his BP (see picture below). It runs well apparently. He is asking $2500 for it. I don't know if any tooling is included (haven't spoken to him directly yet). Does this seem like a good deal? What would GJ say it's worth?

I would say it is excellent deal if it was taken care of and not worn out. It looks pretty dirty. So I would be concerned with the conditions of the ways if the dirt and chips weren't
kept off them it would mean big issues. But people with more experince will pipe up shortly I'm sure.

To me that would be upper end price if it was with tooling. No tooling then it would have to be in great working condition. That is an older machine.

It has power feed, so it has that going for it. No DRO that I can see. See what they go for on your local craigslist, prices can vary a bit region to region.

That price seems high, however some areas the prices are higher. Also that assumes the machine runs good and is tight.
It is important to get as much tooling as you can as you will end up having more invested in the tooling than you will in the machine

Those two machines are worlds apart, one is variable speed and 20 years newer.......$6500 for that machine is a deal if the ways are good and the head is quiet.

The readouts and power feeds alone would set you back close to $3500!

I paid $1700 for a similar vintage J head a couple years back. It was in really good shape. I would think $1500-1800 depending on condition.

Look for grooving on the ways, excessive lash, weird noises in the head. Run the table full travel and check to see if it binds or has a ton of wear in the middle.

These mills are pretty simple, so if the ways and lead screws are in good shape, the rest could be repaired pretty easily.

Location means everything for pricing. Up here that would be the deal of a lifetime on a Bridgeport as mentioned see if you can find comparable mills in your area and see what pricing is like.

I would second the eBay Craigslist search then talk to your gf's father have him or someone that knows run it but if you have the $ and someone can school you on its use then it would be worth it imho

I will have to peruse Craigslist and see what's around. For what it's worth I'm in the DC metro area and he's just north of Baltimore.
