Removing an entry door and framing over

I'm moving and my new attached garage has a side entry door which to me is useless and takes up valuable wall space. I'l like to remove the door. Is it as simple as removing the door and frame, putting up a few 2x4's to frame over the hole, then sheath it and install some siding? I will probably have to re-do the siding on that side of the house to avoid a "seam" where the old door was.

What genius though of an extra door? I already have a door into the house, and 10 feet from that door is another door to the back yard. Why the heck would I need to go from the garage to the side yard? To go into the back yard? To save from opening the garage door to go to the driveway (by way of the side yard)

I'm just frustrated because we are downgrading and my "new" garage is smaller (20x22'). They even have the fricking central vac installed in the garage (bye bye another 4 feet of wall space) I think that is going to be removed at the same time as the door - I'm also considering removing the window which has the lovely veiw of the side of my neighbours garage. It's on the same side as the useless door.OK OK done venting.

Yup. It's that easy.

It's harder to figure out how this thread survived for two hours without a reply...

Maybe too much ranting and nobody wanted to read such a long-winded post!

So I guess the most difficult part is re-doing the siding then? It's Aluminium siding.

That'll be the hard part. Be sure when you put your tar paper/ Tyvek whatever up on the outside that you stick the new end up under the old so it'll turn any moisture that should happen to ever run down the wall. Other than that, nothing fancy involved in the framing.

That door is obviously planned to access the carport, or extra stall that the garage desperately wants to have. The window is nice to have some natural light.

Must be a small planned carport - There is only 6 feet from the door and my garage wall to the neighbours fence! :lol_hitti. . . . . I would love love love to have even an additional half stall, but I got a few price quotes . . . . . . an extra 4 feet on the attached would cost as much as building a completely new 2 stall detached garage . . . . Then I found out it would also violate building code. Some mumbo jumbo about the side lots needing to be a certain percentage of the lot width.
