Why I have a shop

I grew up with cars. My dad owned a machine shop before going to a Chevy dealer as a tech for the last 25 years of his life. We had a local circle track that he built motors for. Needless to say I was destined to be part of that hobby.

I bought the house I did because the shop was big enough for my toys.

My favorite toy is my 2001 Ford Lightning. My father and I built the engine for it in 2011. Other than the transmission every modification was done by me.

And some hooning....

My Second favorite is my 1968 Mustang. My grandmother bought it in 1969 and my father and I restored it in 2006-2013.

I also have a 1993 Lightning that was my dads and in pretty rough shape, so no pictures.

Lastly, my wifes 1994 Cobra

I once worked with a computer programer back when that was a starched white shirt and tie job.

Nice house and some VERY nice rides. Your a lucky man to have a dad that is into things just as much as you are.

And if you find yourself running out of room, feel free to store the gold '68 at my place long term.

Beautiful cars and house. Have you considered a 4 post lift for storage. I love that cobra. I have always wanted a 1995 cobra but don't have the time for it now. Can you post some more pictures of that car if it's not a hassle.

On the large dormer of the house and roof line, do you have any issues with water damage ? It appears that water would run right done and get trapped along with leaves/pine needles ?

I'm a younger guy, so the fleet I have is older. Ie, my cobra is as new to me, as the 68 was to my dad. It's just perspective really.

It took quite a while. Lots of time spent sourcing oem body parts vice aftermarket. Plus it was not a rush.

I had a V10 Dodge pickup I thought was pretty fast.
Until one day when I was behind a Lightning on the on ramp. He left me so far in the dust. My truck didn't seem so fast after that.

Dad worked where the money was. I have a new Tahoe, and have owned more than a few chevys

I looked today. The roof and surrounding area look normal. The gutter there channels the water to some flashing that channel it below

Dusten: most of us don't have the luxury of having a 7 car garage so we are always trying to figure out ways to save space. if you do have any questions about how to use all that space just ask and we'll try to help if we see the question and can.

i like that you started a new thread with all the pictures of the 68 Mustang you and your Dad restored. again i want to say sorry for your loss because it looks and sounds like your Dad was a great guy. my dad is still around and is 83 and i bet we don't see each other more than a few days each year and he and my mom live 20 minutes from me. you were lucky to have him around and to do things with him while he was here.

i saw you posted a vise on the vise thread and not surprising not any comments because even though its a fairly big vise it is just an inexpensive imported one that you might be able to buy new for $50 at harbor freight. it should work fine if you use it as a vise and not an anvil or a press, but they tend to break often. i post vises often on the thread and even if it's old because it might be common i'm lucky to get a post about it good or bad. a lot of guys just want to see pictures posted and just read and rarely post their thoughts and some like me like a little more conversation.

good luck setting up your shop and i agree if you can finish up the walls, wiring and lighting before moving too much inside now is a good idea.

Drivesitfar, I'd like to have a nice vice, but this works for my needs, and was already there. I'll snap some pics of my old man's vice when I go get it.

I understand most people don't have room for seven cars, even fewer though can afford a 4 post simply to store a car on. They are useless for 90% of the work a mechanic does.

You like old tools, perhaps you can tell me about my press. I know nothing about it. I'll post some pictures

Dusten: sadly i do not own a press, but i'm looking for a nice little bench top one because i tend to need one every now and then. sure post up pictures of your Dad's vise and the press with brand names and #'s and if i can't answer any questions i'm sure one of the members will be able to.

another reason i'm including it is because he installed a Max Jax lift which might be the one i'll buy when i move and it also can be mobile so you can move it to any spot in your home's garage or shop. he also has some great videos and ideas for storage if you need any.
