I have decided to do my garage floor with metallic epoxy. I have already ordered the stuff from justin. I have to do the floor in 2 sections so does anyone have any suggestions on tieing the 2 sections together? the first section will have been dried for several weeks before I do the second.
Thanks and this is a great forum.

This is not the best way to go. At this point, you do plan on filling the control joints, correct?

Yes I am filling the joints. I know its not the best but dont see another option. I need 1/2 the garage for items that cannot be stored outside when that 1/2 was done I planned to complete the rest. I basicly have a garage inside my garage 30x30 with roll up door inside a 30x60 building.

OK, we can email you some info on what you can do to minimize the joint between the two sections but likely you are going to see it.

OP: Do yourself a favor and get on youtube. There are some great videos showing how to do this correctly.

Key points:

Floor needs to be very smooth and all defects/joints need to be pre-filled and leveled.
Even a slight indentation will cause the material (pigment) to pool, killing the effect.

Joints/cracks: Gel crack fillers can produce a slight depression which telegraphs big time through metallic coatings, again the pigment flows within the resin, so it reacts to any un-eveness. We use polyurea joint/crack fillers for this reason.

Lastly, I am sure a 2nd coat of primer was recommended?? It produces the best effect as there is less drag on the floor and better flow.

You would not know about these tips unless you actually performed the installation before. Any start/stop would be impossible to hide and will stand out like a sore thumb.

Yikes... You may want to think about renting a storage container for your belongings. Doing a metallic floor in 2 separate sections is going to look funky for sure. It won't be consistent.. Depending on the effects you're adding..

Thanks guys I know there will be a seam where the floors meet and I plan to put it where the interior garage door closes. my biggest concern is the prep for joining the cured floor to the new floor.

I rented a POD to put all my garage stuff in while a did my floor. They parked it 5ft outside my garage door so it was an easy transition. It was around $300 for the month but worth it
