I just picked up a couple nice tools at a yard sale and I got a MATCO 1/2" drive 13/16 deep impact socket for .75 cents. I went to put it on my snap on mg725 gun today and it won't slide down on the anvil. All my other 1/2" sockets fit fine. My other brands are snap on,sunex and craftsman.
Funny thing is that it goes on my 1/2" ratchets no problem.

Farthest it goes on the gun

did you try to wiggle it little bit? look like deformed.

I don't think you can warranty that, due to grinding marks :)

yeah, somebody pounded on it with a hammer and then took a grinder to the OD of the drive end to get rid of the mushroom.

Man that looks like is been used to beat bearings in and out. And i should know ive used a few OLD sockets for this same method of abuse and punishment. Lol

Seriously your going to ask for your 75 cents back? Lol

This. Just keep it around if you need to use it as a press tool or something. Buying yard sale tools can be a gamble. Losing .75 is nothing to get worked up over.

You just need to chamfer the edges of the square drive.
Same principle as redressing a mushroomed chisel or punch.

Makes sense. The ring on the impact anvil probably needs that chamfer to gradually slide in. I'll knock the edges in a little with a file and see what happens

Spent a little time and got her to work! Took the file to it and then the dremel with a sandpaper drum attachment to get the center chamfered divots back in. Took my grinder to the outer edge and smoothed the flat with a file.
Works great now

You did a real good job. And the pride you gain from fixing something is worth more than a replacement socket.

Thank you. I figure if I couldn't get it to work after 20some minutes I might consider sending it in for warranty. I don't have a MATCO dealer so sending it in would be my only option. In only deal with a snap on dealer
