The sockets look a little gimmicky to me. Plus they don't include a 10mm or 12mm socket. Anyone have any real world reviews?

This kind of **** isn't marketed toward someone who would realize that. The demographic for this would just smash on whatever socket fit or round off with the size above. It allows the people that bought the Machy Mouse junk to add to their tool collection.

I just checked out this ratchet at Sears today, COO is Taiwan. I was less impressed than I thought I'd be by the swing of the 72 teeth feature. I wouldn't buy the ratchet because of the bulky handle, too much of the auto work I do is clearance limited. The same is true with the sockets. For assembly work it might be the right tool.

No 10mm in the socket set... HUH?

I played around it a week or so ago and it is the best ratchet they got at sears that is decently priced. Ain't saying much but if I get some points or they clearance them out at $10, I will pick one up, but that locking adjustable is first on my list.

their promo video on the website just turns me off... the voice keeps saying "extreme" like he's straining to get a turd out, they drop a tiny screw on the workbench like it was some massive effort to remove, and the background music is just distracting... all the signs of over marketing a gimmicky tool. if they spent half the money they spend on producing that marketing video, on actual engineering of a non-gimmicky quality tool it would have appealed to me more...

That is how every tool is marketed these days, it is the evolution of that infomercial voice guy. Pretty hard to find a tool ad without really lame rock music and EXTREME these days.
The ratchet is nice though, I handled one in store and it is not junk like the sockets.

I got the extreme grip ratchet in the mail today. Took some quick comparison pictures with a Husky flex head and a Craftsman thin profile. As everyone probably guessed the extreme grip has the same internals as the Husky 72 tooth ratchet. The Extreme grip is a little longer than the thin profile. Sorry about the poor picture quality.

Swung by sears and grabbed one for $9.19 along with a few other items after they took off some points. For that price, why not?
I'm digging the satin finish for some unknown reason. Taiwan made.

I picked one up and compared it to the low profile Harbor F. one and although the Craftsman is a bit shorter overall it is thinner than the Harbor F. one. Plus, the Craftsman has a quick release where the Harbor F. one does not. Did not get a photo comparison with digital caliper on both but you'll have to take my word for it :) Both have a COO of Taiwan! and both have the 72 tooth count.

Why are there so many 72 tooth ratchets all of a sudden? Do they all use the same mechanism. It seems strange that someone else doesn't have a 74 tooth ratchet. Is there some mathematical principal that I am missing?

That selector and back-plate look similar to the Armstrong/Matco ratchets. Any chance a 88 tooth kit would drop in?

I'm in for one at $10.12 shipped (with points). Actually looks decent. Probably the last new Craftsman ratchet I'll ever buy.

I'm going to have to guess that it's because 360 (degrees) is easily divisible by 72, creating a 5 degree arc swing. I'd wager a bet that this is similar to why many ratchets were 36-tooth count in the past.

I don't see any true benefit to this theory, but maybe an engineer can chime in.

In addition to the "divisible" answer it might be related to a single provider of the ratcheting mechanisms in taiwan. That might be all they make so that's what the ratchet mfgs use..:bounce:

I think it would fit aside from that large hole in the ratchet head where the quick release button is.

You could take the guts from a newer Craftsman 84 tooth thin head quick release ratchet (not premium) and slide it in but, why? I mean 12 more teeth on a gear the size of a quarter doesn't yield a massive improvement. :dunno:

Ah yes! I completely forgot about the QR function.

In truth I wasn't concerned with swapping the guts for a slightly higher tooth count. I was just curious if this is a bit of cross pollination by Apex/Danaher.

Well, I just got mine in today.

Gotta say, it's pretty nice! Nice and thin. Tooth action is pretty smooth. Still wondering if a kit from one of my Matcos or Armstrongs might fit it. It's got me curious. I'm considering ordering a second one as a matter of fact.

I just got mine today. After my points I paid just shy of $5. Granted I haven't really used it yet, but it seems really nice. Oddly enough, the only place it says "craftsman" on it is very small writing on the handle. I expected it to be a little more pronounced but that doesn't effect my opinion of it. I'm not concerned with the name on the tool but how well the tool performs. Although in my experience it's the tool holding the tool that messes up more than the other way around...

Looked at one in the store today and decided to pass. If it was a 1/2" drive for a little more money I would've done it. I don't put a ton of pressure on my 3/8" drive stuff so the comfy handle wasn't a big deal there to me.
