Getting a deal on a Toro mower?

I've been waiting for a sale to come up somewhere so that I could pickup a Toro 30" Timemaster...so far, no luck. The best I can find is $975 and it's a regular deal.

I was hoping Home Depot would do something like 5%-10% off mowers for Memorial Day weekend.. and I could get them to match a Lowe's 10%, but no luck.

Does anyone have a good source for deals on Toros? Or perhaps know when Home Depot might turn a deal on them? Father's Day?

Thanks!

You can save a little with second hand giftcards....
http://www.cardpool.com/buy/home-depot-gift-cards

With mowers like that they typically are conservative with the production so they don't have to worry about hard to move inventory at the end of the season. This means they also don't need to discount much.

I saw this at home depot....it was return or used...or display????...but was marked down to $827...but it was not new....just mower itself.... I even gave them the sku ### thinking it might be lower clearance price....Nope...same price. I was lucky to end up with the $299 honda mower new clearance...no more of those either...

good luck.

Thanks all, seems like I'll end up biting the bullet on this one soon. They seem to never come up used, if so, they're priced close enough to new it's hard to justify.

Wouldn't one of those Lowes/Home Depot 10% mover coupons work or does that exclude big ticket items? That's the only way I could see someone getting a discount.

For what its worth Toro walk behind mowers have horrendous mark-up. That's a big reason why deals are few and far between. Dealer cost on a time-master is close to $850 without factoring in overhead to unload, unbox, and set-up.

If it cuts like my 400 dollar Toro personal pace from Home Depot, I would get a Honda again. I switched from Honda because they have wanted 150 bucks to replace the 3 speed transmission. Hindsight is 20/20.

I believe the 10% will work, but I found one online with free shipping/no tax for the same as what Home Depot wants at -10% + 8.25% Sales Tax.

If it's the exact same price, I'd just go down to the local HD and get it. With shipping, it may be tossed about and dropped harshly. Plus it's easier to return to the local store, if there's a problem.

I love mine. Paid the same price ($999) at the local mower dealer. I figured if I ever needed warranty (1 recall they took care of) I'd get a warmer welcome. Buy the mulch blade for the Turfmaster 30 model. Works much better then the lower lift mulch blade that comes on it.

You could try using the 10% movers coupon, plus buying gift cards online for at least 8% savings, plus sending in for the 11% menards rebate match. Only catch is you would have to get a movers coupon and buy it by the 30th which is when menards 11% rebate ends and HD also would stop matching their rebate.. If they deny the rebate, that's still 18% discount.

Also the 11% rebate applies to in store purchases and not online, ship to home/store orders.

What I have read is that the Toros sold at Home Depot are manufactured under license by MTD. If that's true, that would explain why they are junk. I took no chances and bought my Personal Pace at a professional power equipment dealer with a Toro franchise and it's been used and abused for 5 years without skipping a beat.

Always buy lawn care equipment from a profession power equipment dealer so that you know you are not buying "licensed" junk.

What all needs to be done to get the Menard's rebate from HD? Do I need to have a Menard's close by?

You have this partially right. Its the entry level ride-ons that's are made by MTD. All walk behinds are made by Toro. If the model numbers are identical its the same machine whether it be at a big box store or a mom and pop dealer. Home Depot will tell you to get lost if you have a problem outside of their 30 day return policy though.

Buy it from home depot with the same model number as the Toro indy dealer then if you have any problems take it to the servicing dealer. Thats what i did with my zero turn last year. I was able to maximize the discount through home depot while still getting warranty work through my dealer.

I had a Toro personal Pace. Hated it. You always seemed to be either pushing it or chasing it. I recall having to have it repaired as well, although I do not remember what for. I actually gave it away for free after I picked up a Honda self-propelled at end of season clearance. Like another poster who did the same noted, I will never own another non-Honda mower.

I can't say weather you need a local menards or not, I personally have gotten all my home depot rebate matches but I do have a local menards. I have not looked much for anyone that has submitted a rebate match that lived in a state without menards. The terms on home depot rebate form does say "Promotion is valid in select US The Home Depot
stores" but even if it's regected you would still have gotten 18% discount and seems like thats better than any other prices you've gotten so far.

As for how do you submit the rebate....Make a copy of your home depot reciept, print of the home depot rebate match form from the net, and mail it in. The link below should download a pdf of the rebate form, or just google home depot 11 percent match

I've owned two Honda hydo's. Great machines in every way. My wife still uses it when I'm traveling. But a 30 inch cut made up for a noisier machine for me. The Toro is perfect for me. I could not use a 33" deck style mower because of their size. I wanted to cut time off and I'm at 40 minutes vs 1 hour. When Honda makes a 30" I'll be in line for one. :)

Couldn't disagree more, the personal pace system is the best walk behind self propel in the industry. Far more intuitive than Honda's thumb paddle workout. Sounds like you had your cable adjusted too tight if it was that sensitive because functioning right its like the mower is hardly there.

Look at Amazon for reviews on the Personal Pace Mowers. They average around 2.5 stars. A lot of reliability / warranty issues, mixed reviews on the PP system itself. My Honda has sat outside through several winters and still always starts on the first pull after many years and has never required a single repair of any sort.

I suspect that the contour of your lawn will make a big diff. Mine has flat areas and several hills. I would definitely try before you buy. You may love it, you may hate it, probably little in between.

Terrible place for reviews on small engine equipment. I usually skim them for laughs if they ever come up. Fact is people are dolts and can barely figure out how to unbox things, let alone correctly assemble, and the VAST majority of complaints are user ignorance. I'd tell anyone to go to a dealer and try it. Its a fantastic system that's topped consumer reports and sold strongly for them for nearly 15 years.

I don't know what was wrong with their old system.

It was rock solid, my 1995 Toro Super Recycler is still cutting today. Runs like a top.

My son used to be in the business about 10 years ago. (Now in wholesale distribution.) Back then, there was definitely a difference between between what was sold at dealers and what was sold in the big box stores. The big difference was stamped steal vs. cast aluminum mowing deck.

The old 3 speeds were excellent and reliable but variable speed has been the "better" way for quite some time.

Ended up finding a practically brand new TimeMaster for $750 and picked it up. Will try it out tomorrow!

I have researched hundreds of consumer reviews on lawn mowers over the past few years. The Torro personal pace is on of those rare products where almost nobody rated it as average. 50% of consumers thought that it was the best lawn mower ever and the other 50% thought that it was the biggest piece of junk. Nothing in between! Funny how opinions can be so different.

The most common complaint was that the personal pace stalled easily and lacked power. It seems to sell well though, making it less likely that you will get it under the regular price any time soon.
