Late night again working on clients 2009 Jeep. Finished up the rear end and tonight slap the tires/wheels back on, tighten the front suspension, adjust/calibrate the ECM for tire size and gear ratio and take her for a test drive before calling the guy to come and get it.

Tomorrow a 2012 Buick Regal doing a 75k mile service for another client.

Mike.

In and out of the garage yesterday.... I tore the interior out of the '82 Bronco yesterday to prepare for painting and also to fix some issues. Once all the paint and bedliner is removed and dash issues fixed I will be painting it black. Then onto the exterior for paint.
This Bronco is in great condition with hardly any rust (most of which is surface rust and thats on the undercarriage). I've had this Bronco for about 7 years and have done a few mods and "adjustments" to her. I will provide more pictures as I progress. BTW, the reason for repaint is because I did not like the brown and white color scheme. The paint was in good condition, just didn't like the color.

Finished painting exhaust manifold #2 for the CJ5. Now to let it bake a little if the sun shines here today.

Good Morning Rmalkow2,

What paint are you using for this? I rebuilt my 351 in the Bronco and painted the block and intake etc... and am thinking of painting the headers. I have highTemp header paint but just curious what you are using.

I have a few crappy cell phone pics of an antique cast iron plaque manufactured by Wilton I finished up recently. I don't get the opportunity to restore a lot of folk art but this little jewel was a very challenging and fun project. The last pic shows my exemplar, the best online auction photo I could find of an original.

That plaque would be a "Firemark". IIRC your Fire Insurance provider gave you that to hang on your house. If you had a fire, it would identify which fire dept. would put it out since the fire depts. were owned or contracted with the insurance co.

Hope Billy's mom is on the mend.

What is it?

John[/QUOTE

I believe it is a marking gage, used in woodworking .. Used mostly for people who hand cut their own mortise and tendon and similar hand chisel / planning / spoke-shaving work. The end to the l eft should have a point scriber on it. Set the distance from the scriber to the "face" of the larger part, and scribe the line...

Maybe not?

And another thanks to the Udder John in Rochester for that little history lesson too! My customer sent me a link to some (probably similar) research too but I couldn't read it on my phone.

My customer turned me loose with it and said to do whatever I wanted with it. I learned from my own research that the UF stands for the United Firemens' association and that his piece was an original, so that's how I restored it.

It will be delivered to his place in Ewa Beach, Hawaii on Monday and will have a featured spot on his lanai (I guess it's an outdoor porch or something). I tried hard to fit myself into the Flat Rate box too but couldn't tape it up from the inside so it sadly had to make the trip alone.

Billy's mom is doing a little better -- thanks for asking! She face-planted in the kitchen last Friday afternoon and ended up with some stitches in her head and now unable to walk. The 'bath lady' (aka Retha the idiot from CareAll, the home health care place) took the WATERPROOF medical alert button off for her bath and neglected to put it back on his mother so she laid there bleeding all over the floor for up to two hours before Billy found her ... pushing on her chest where the button necklace should have been and crying that no one called or came to help her.

We tore the house apart after the ambulance took her, and I finally found it buried in the pile of wet towels they kindly leave on my bathroom floor every time they show up to bathe her which I had scooped up the previous Tuesday and taken to the basement. << shakin my head >> So ... she's gone from being mainly self-sufficient to being practically an invalid within the span of a couple hours. We're not sure what the future will hold when she gets discharged from rehab; the last 2 1/2 years have been beyond challenging before this even happened and it's surely not going to make anything easier.

Sorry guys -- I didn't intend to write a novel when I sat down here this morning. I guess it was kinda building up. On with happier Garage News from somebody else ..............

I finally finished the canoe I started 1286 days ago! In all fairness I have started and completed three other boats since starting this one, for some reason it just kept getting put on the back burner until the last month. Here's a shot a couple days ago as I was finishing the woodwork on top:

and sitting in the sun with the final coat of paint drying on the outside of the hull:

I like to keep the pretty natural woodgrain for the inside and paint the exterior. That way when I hit rocks and have to repair the outside I just paint back over it and it doesn't change the looks. I tend to be hard on my canoes since I actually use them instead of keeping them around to look pretty. Also, this one weighs 47 lbs which is a full 35 lbs less than the plastic one of the same size that I used to own. :)

Cleaned, sanded, painted and mounted my shop vent fan. I used a hammered finish paint I saw here on GJ. Looks like weathered galvanized. I LIKE it! Forgot to service the 40 year old motor. Guess what wants oiling, etc. after an hour of use. Modified two of my new to me steelcase overheads for ceiling mount and the other two for wall mount. Got to make sparks. Lagged them up. It's so nice to have my bench back for welding and other work. I was able to put new brushes on my pool vac without getting on my knees and scrabbling around on the ground.

Cut the cedar for modern planter to match our fence. Love the smell of cedar. Hope to assemble it tomorrow.

Also put a new tire and tube on my 9 year old's tiny bike, which he refers to as the "circus bike" due to its diminutive size. Tire could no longer stand up to nonstop barrage of coaster brake skids....

Welded the license plate frame on my sons Jeep, while he's working in Romania at the new US Navy Base.

Still having issues tracking the weld on the joint, but getting better. Amazing what using gas does for the ease of welding.

I feel your pain. I want to get my kids solid rubber tires..

I hear you on that. Son got a flat front tire on his bike. KEPT ON RIDING IT, ground up the edges of the wheel. New wheel, tire, tube, all good.

Next summer did same thing. Another new wheel, tire, and tube. This time we got Kevlar tires so hopefully would be the last flats for awhile.

It was. He left it unlocked and Somebody took it!

Yesterday late afternoon I did the prep for dropping the ****** out of the Samurai, and after my son came home from work we pulled it out. (just heavy and awkward enough to be better a two man job), Then we placed the spare back in. I'll finish the install this AM.

Cleaned and moved things around for temporary setup until I can move everything out here. Picked up some floor space in the process. efffcd1110ce38fe62b79b845d1db129.jpg9b4d0a0d84e8b0d8c9e4dc1ede021941.jpg2b6170c3d1afdd285763327f709f71d7.jpg

Finished up the clients 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Friday and and he picked it up yesterday. He seemed very happy.

My sister was then in town and I needed to install new front struts, rear shocks, serpentine belt and spark plugs on her 2012 Buick Regal Turbo 2.0.

Friday night my son came up to me stating his truck was leaking. We looked for the leak and determined it was the hydraulic line from his power steering pump to the hydroboost. NAPA had one in stock so after getting the Buick off the lift we pulled his truck in and replaced the hydraulic line.

By now it was mid-afternoon yesterday and I wanted to go for a ride as it was the first nice weekend day we have had in over a month due to the rain we have been having. My wife and I hopped on the bike and went for a nice ride and grabbed a bite of dinner.

All in all a pretty awesome weekend.

Mike.

Painted an old wooden box that we use to store the camp lighting in for Scouts, needed a bit of repair and then its getting a couple of coats of white paint and our group name and the contents stencilled on it. The boys helped me paint it.

Then I spent the day putting some white paint on the walls and ceiling around the bar we have in another outbuilding, ceiling and one wall needs a second coat but it looks a lot nicer than the pus yellow it was before. I put a coat of cream paint on the bar itself but I don't like it as it looks too bland so I've got some nice French Grey paint left over from our last house so I'll stick a coat of that on tomorrow and see what that looks like. I also hung a couple of signs in there. I'll get some pictures when its done.

I'm also waiting on a couple of old enamel lamps that came out of a British Army barracks to hang over the pool table.

Not a lot of time in the garage today, but stole a few minutes to repair the power supply for our Mosquito trap and trouble shoot a lighted bench-mounted magnifying glass on a stalk (the LEDs wouldn't turn on) - jiggled the wires until the lights came on, then put it back together.
