The only ones I own are from a craftsman mechanics set I bought who knows how long ago. I have (sockets);

Torx: T15, T20, T25, T30, T40, T45, and T50

Hex: Only have 4-8mm, I believe. I also have about 4 or 5 standard sizes that I've literally never used.

I have a 11' Mazda, an 05' Nissan, and an 02' Ford truck here.

I remember using torx on the mazda at some point, but it was a size I had. On the ford I can't remember since most times I've worked on that has been at my buddys house with his tools...and he's got, well, most everything.

I already have a 10mm hex on the list to get. Any other sizes you feel I'll run into given those cars feel free to chime in so I can start after them.

I'm not familiar with Mazda/Ford/Nissan specifics, but do be cautious of Torx vs. Torx Plus as mentioned in the link KamiCrit posted. The profiles can look similar at first glance but are not always interchangeable. If you learn of any Torx Plus sizes on your vehicles you may consider buying them individually versus buying a set.

There is a posibilty of a few T10 fasteners on modern cars...

To fill in the sets to scratch that "just in case" itch...

T27, T47, T55 & T60 should cover it... Very rarely a T70 or T80 is found.

and Hex... 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm & 17mm
along with the rest you have should do 99.8% of
everything out there for cars and motorcycles.

Full disclosure... I may have made up that statistic...

Definitely you will need a t55,t60 a 10mm hex 9mm (for some newer calipers on Mazda) 12mm,14mm and a 3/8 drive 6mm for some Nissan Intakes

You will also need a t10,t15,t20 tamper proof torx for mass air flows

And the t70 is used on subarus and some Mercedes but not very common

And depending on your Nissan or ford new spark plug sockets 9/16 ford triton 14mm Nissan 1.8l

I found out one day that I needed a set of torx bits. I was trying to run wires down the passenger side of a Lincoln LSC and found the power seat to be in an unworkable condition. The seatbelt anchor was fastened using a torx that I could not reach with sockets / keys. I had to insert the bit and then turn it with a 10mm ratchet wrench.

Torx are interior panel hell in my eyes

I had a random set of about 10 or 12 sae and mm torx and next fasteners from a craftsman set. Based upon the glowing reviews of VIM tools here, I bought the full Torx and Hex sets, and its really paid off. Never worry about not having the right bit now. Handed the craftsman bits down to a friend with less tools.

Thank you for mentioning VIM. I had never heard of them so I just did a search on it. I can get the whole set for what I would have ebayed a few snap on pieces for. It'll be fine for my needs and everyone seems to talk up the quality of their tools. Looks like a winner

Yea this forum had great comments on them, and I've zero complaints. They've been great quality, and its nice to have a full, organised and labelled set. Supposed to have a good no hassle warranty too from what I've read here.

The Hex set I got was VIM Tools HMS26 Hex Master Set and the torx was Vim Tools TMS34PF Torx Master Set. I believe I've read in the tool truck thread that Mac? Or one of the tool truck brands just rebrands and sells these. They also offer half cut stubbies, extra long, etc depending on if you have special needs or applications.

heres a pic I took a while ago of the torx set

Have you considered shopping for a new tool chest to hold these new master sets? :FIREdevil

Nahhh...I've got a spot cleared...assuming they fit.

It still probably would have been more expensive buying the individuals off ebay, so by buying the whole set I'm good to go...just have a few doubles now, never hurts.

This place had little influence on that decision:lol:

Although I DID have to get new ratchets once I discovered the craftsmans I've been using for years sucked. Half kidding....I never really liked them..just didn't have much of idea what to replace them with.
