So, is GJ and/or HJE planning any special tool sale event days for 2015?? I've been watching the "stickies" but haven't noticed anything.

Another SK day or a Wright day would get my vote, but I could probably find something to buy from any US manufacturer!!

I've been waiting very patiently for Wright Day ... got a laundry list of big wrenches I'd like to order from Harry Epstein ...

I have been hoping that it would become a spring event (Spring for Wright Day) just like SK Day (Fall for SK Day).

Probably need to PM Bull but, I just checked and he hasn't posted since April. :wtf: I hope he's ok :dunno:

We used to do Epstein's day around the 4th of July (ya know, red, white, and blue, seared flesh, fireworks, American Made Tools, etc ) looking at older threads, the announcement usually came out around the middle of June but, Bull put that stuff together and me thinks he's MIA. :dunno:

Bull is going through a tough time in his marriage. He has a thread about it, but hasn't posted to it in quite some time. It is my understanding that he is taking a break from GarageJournal while things work out.

Oh, man. I looked up the thread and now see why he needs to take some time away. What a bummer for him. I hope and pray it all works out for him.

I hope we still do epsteins day on July 4th. I really enjoy the events. Surely someone on here can put something together.

If nobody has any objections I would be willing to organize the event for this year.
I believe Jory from HJE posts here. Maybe they can post about HJE day and make that the official 2015 event.

I've heard about SK Day from last year. Anyone care to fill me in on just what it is? How good were the deals? Link to an old thread maybe?

I'd be game for Wright and/or SK.

From my understanding, these special sale event days aren't about getting the best deals (but deals are still to be had), but about supporting American manufacturers (SK, Wright, etc.) and American companies (HJE).

Did/Does HJE do "Wright Day" as well?

I'm all for supporting American companies especially if there are good deals involved.

I would love to have an SK or maybe even Proto sale.

It's not a "sale" so much as just showing your support for American made or small business.

While we do often get some nice deals or freebies thrown in. That's not the purpose of the events

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to use the word sale in that sense. I wasn't referring to discounts.

No big deal. I understand. Just had some problems in the past with people complaining the discounts weren't enough.

I would also like to see do the Wright thing day and have Jori visit the factory like he did S-K to show everyone around. I say this because I work down the street from Wright Tool and would volunteer to video it and take still shots.

I think that in certain instances we have had specific brand themes, (SK Day, Enderes Day, etc.), but I think that we usually leave it up to Jori on the 4th of July. I think that last year he reached out to different manufacturers and saw who was willing to put together a discount or a special giveaway.

If Basskiller wants to head this up, I am okay with that (love it when someone else does all the work). But I do think that we should get some sort of approval from Ryan on all of this. We are using his site and name, so his consent should be sought.

2014 Epstein's Day

The time has come for our third annual Epstein's Day.

In brief: three years ago I had the idea of a group-buy type event to support H.J. Epstein, a small family owned company in Kansas City that has been around a long time and which strives to offer USA made products at competitive prices. Another member had the idea to combine the day with our July 4th celebrations. For the last two years this has worked well; we celebrate our country and also support a company that is connected to some of the values that our country was built upon.

Here is the company website: http://store.harryepstein.com/

Here is the plan: Any time on July 4th, from midnight to 11:59PM, you make a purchase from them via their website. You might purchase just one item or many items. You include a note with your purchase that expresses your participation in the GJ Epstein's Day event. That's it.

Don't forget to check out their beyond-cool box art.

Have I missed anything?

Here are the threads from the last two years for you to check out:

I totally agree!! Before we start running the hounds we should have Ryan's blessing. Or, maybe he would want to take the lead just to make sure it doesn't run off the rails, or GJ get cross-wise of HJE somehow. Please, I mean no disrespect to Basskiller and appreciate his willingness to volunteer. If Ryan's cool with it, I'm fine with Basskiller running the show!

Ryan??? Are you out there?????

I feel a bit uncomfortable about running the show, since what I really liked about Epstein's Day was that it was community organized, and not some company coming in and creating the event for itself. So I'm going to leave who organizes the event up to you guys. Or maybe whoever volunteers first.

There is a certain amount of coordination that needs to happen though between Epsteins, the tool manufacturers and Garage Journal, so once you guys figure it out, contact me and we will get started planning.

I read through the posts and reached out to Wright Tool to see how they might want to participate this year. Running ideas like this through most companies takes awhile, so it is always good to give them plenty of time to come up with something.

The other piece of the puzzle is that we are nearly finished building our new HJE website. I almost hesitate to bring this up, because it has been a long project that feels like it will never really be over, but hopefully with a little luck and a lot of work, we will have a new website before July 4th with a lot of new features (one of them being that the entire Wright catalog will be integrated into our website).

So, I will keep you guys updated about Wright, and if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks again for wanting to do this again. It really is something special.

Hey. I'm all for it! Can I help?

Hey, Ryan!! A couple of thoughts .....

It appears that Basskiller has volunteered to get the program organized from the GJ side, and Jori from HJE has indicated their willingness to again participate, so it looks like a few of the key pieces are in place and ready to go.

Now, I have no idea of the logistics of how Bull organized these HJE-USA events in the past, but I would think you should contact Jori and provide the “official” word that GJ is in the game. I suspect that what Jori needs is a commitment from GJ that we will promote the program before he goes to the manufacturers and spends a lot of his and their time putting their side of the program together. He certainly isn’t going to want to see the event go bust after investing a lot of his time and good-will capital.

Find out from him what he needs from GJ to make the program work then pass that info on to Basskiller who can then work directly with Jori to set up anything that may be needed. Basskiller can work with Jori to identify the parameters of the program such as name of this year’s program (may be the same as all previous July 4th events), order start/end dates, manufacturers participating, discounts (if any), etc. For simplicity at this late date, it may be wise to keep as many of the details identical to previous years.

You’ll need to get a sticky posted with the specifics and do anything else you can to promote the event. It will be critical to get the word out to as many GJ members as possible as soon as the specifics are set.

You and/or Basskiller will have to closely monitor the sticky and field any questions that GJ members ask. As Administrator, you’ll also have to monitor the overall progress of the event development to assure that nothing goes off the rails.

With only a month until July 4, the timing seems pretty tight so, if it’s going to come off smoothly and give GJ members time to hear about the event and get their pennies saved, the planning will have to move quickly! If it begins to look as if the time is too short to get a good event set up, it may be wise to defer the event until the next USA holiday which would be Labor Day.

Anyway, that’s my two cents! If I can lend a hand somehow, let me know!

Doesn't have to be a holiday. Doesn't even have to be a specific brand. Could be just a Made in USA event. Either way Im in. There are a few things on my list

We haven't used Epstein's Day on the 4th of July as a specific Brand event in the past. Emphasis was to buy American made stuff from the vast selection of goodies they offer. It was more about supporting small and not so small US companies. It wasn't about getting a buy of the century. yes there was box art and some free swag but, the event has never been geared towards the something for nothing gang. :dunno:

Completely agree!! If it is organized as a "buy USA from HJE" event that would certainly simply the logistics of getting it in play by July 4.

That's hoe everyone has been organized. Although there are usually specifics like buy a wright product and get a sticker or t shirt or something

Either way I'm pumped about this I sure hope we get it together in time and hopefully we swamp HJE even more than last year.
