Facebook Swap Sites.

I was rocking my infant son to sleep yesterday. Just to pass the time I looked through the facebook swap site and someone had a Craftsman Radial Saw with table and dust collection hood for sale for only $40!! It was at my place two hours later, runs like a champ, will clean up and put new table on it soon.

The guy stated he had it listed for $60 for three months with no bites. He said he listed it today again for $40 and me and another guy wanted it. I told him if I would of seen it sooner I would of bought it even at $60, Should I have given him the $60?

No. Radial arm saws are getting tough to even give away these days. No one wants them. Compound miter saws and Festool-type track saws have replaced them.

I still like mine for dados, although a lot of people use routers instead.

Not really. I paid $25 for one that was mounted on a MAC roller toolbox, just so I could get the roller. Finally got tired of the dumb thing in my way and it sold at a consignment auction for $10.

I guess RAS are one of those things, either you love them or hate 'em. I sure do not hate mine.

Most of the time, there is a facebook page someone starts in your town for buying, selling and trading. Some of them are ok. Most around my area are all clothes and junk, every once in a while there will be tools. Might be a page for a more rural county, those seem to be better.

I used it to make some cuts today. Made the job so much easier. Definitely earned a spot in my garage.

They don't command the prices they once did but $40 bucks is a pretty good deal, especially if you have a use for it. Just watch yer fingers.

My wife uses the local swap "virtual yard sale" sites and sells and buys a bit. Same **** you'd list on Craigslist without the fast ad turnover and more people viewing things they didn't know they needed.

I'll stick to normal Craigslisting. I closed my Facebook over a year ago and enjoy my life without it.

That saw was a good buy though. For $40, I'd have had a hard time not buying.

There is a recall on Craftsman RAS's and the company that owns the rights to the saw (Emerson Electric) will pay you $100 for the motor and carriage of many models. You contact a number, they send you a prepaid box and you send them the parts they request. They then send you back $100 US. I did this last year with an old Craftsman RAC that I had. I have used the two FB swap pages I follow a few times.
Most of the posts are for weight loss products or children's clothing and toys.
I did see some CNC plasma cut goodies a few days ago but didn't bite.

As for the RAS I would skip it. Get you a nice miter saw. I have both and almost never use the RAS any longer.

I like the FB sites, there are quite a few around this area and several are "guy stuff" or ag/farm classifieds only and unlike craigs the prices arent seriously overinflated. Many of the same ads I see posted there are almost double on craigs.

JMO but I like a quality RAS for easily cutting all manner of angles.

I was just in a Sears Store a couple weekends ago and you can still buy a brand new one of those. I had thought they went the way of the Dodo years ago!

Exactly what I ran into. Then someone in my county started a group called "Manly-Man Online Yard Sale". No toys or baby cloths allowed. Plenty of tools, car parts, and the like. Have bought a few things from there.

Facebook buy/sell groups have really taken off the last year or so. Seriously cutting into CL and Ebay traffic from what I have been reading.

My dad has a ras. It's what I learned to do woodworking on. His is set upside that he can rip full sheets of plywood.

I have a DeWalt ras and use it most days.
Been using ras for 50 years with as much as a drop of blood leaked.
