You also need to add some clarity as to the type of wrenches you seek. Are you looking for combo, open ends, or double box ends?

Welcome to the forum first of all. You are collecting a VERY popular name and style of wrench. As stated, please point out the exact configuration of the ones you are looking for. I have a few and might be up for a trade for something you might have. What condition are you willing to accept? (Yes, we would all like NOS but they are few and far between.)

I am seeking combination wrenches with the pebble grain. Thanks. For the condition, some of mine are in pretty bad condition that I cleaned up on a wire wheel, that is before I read on here that you shouldnt.. you should use evaprorust(sp?). I have a partial set that was my grandads, the rest got lost along the way i guess and I would like to put that togather.

Thanks

Ya, Race14, you should wire wheel your wrenches until the pebbles are gone, and all the lettering is nice and smooth and rounded. I'll give ya a little tip, just skip the wire wheelin, and use a belt sander instead. Why, in no time your pebbles will be as smooth as a Snap-on...or a Pittsburgh...or one of Uncle Buck's wrenches!

:lol_hitti

(That last part was for Uncle Buck, who is my sparring partner on this topic.)

As for the supposed difficulty of finding pebble plombs, it ain't so. There was an artificial bubble of about two months ago, when a half dozen collectors (most here on GJ, all of us whipping each other into a feeding frenzy, with more money than brains, buying at artificially high prices) were all looking for the exact same things simultaneously. Well most of us have now found our basic sets, prices are quickly normalizing, and you should have no problem filling out your set on eBay.

Don't worry, Plombs are not rare. Most are not hard to find, unless you happen to hit in the middle of a feeding frenzy, or you are looking for an unusual item that was produced in low numbers, or you are looking at the really old items made in the teens and twenties.

There are gadzillions of pebble plombs out there, so take a go-slow approach and in a year you'll have multiples of everything you want!

Just like chummin the water for fish..........................except with Bolster here I use a little fresh gopher, and just a touch of gopher gravy, sends him on a feeding frenzy and tool preservation tailspin every time! :lol_hitti(Though I do stand by with my ever ready wire wheel firmly in hand prepared to go to work properly preserving all manner of old hand tools!) :pimpflash

I knew he would come a runnin when I posted, I even suspect he might have had a moment or so when his heart actually skipped a beat that coincides with the very moments that I typed the words WIRE WHEELING, or just WHEELING! :spit:

They aren't done yet. Only a few have been blasted. Very poor condition doubles I had. Gotta run a test first before I do the good stuff! I'm waiting for the BO kit from Caswell. I was hoping it would get here for this weekend, but alas, it didn't. :(

BTW, do you have a picture of the SOBE wrenches you are looking for? I might have one.
