That looks like house paint, and SG should take it off unless sit's oil base (it might work I just have no experience with it...).

Cut a paper towel so the SG can be kept to the paint location and soak the paper towel, lay some Saran wrap over it and give it 10 min or so and see if it's softening. if not go another 10... Repeat as needed.

Ok I'll try it. If it softens, just try to wipe it off?

Wipe may work but I'd use an old soft tooth brush and more SG to get in the crinkles.

Well I let it soak a little in simple green and it seemed to soften some of it but not enough. I just used a blade and was able to scrape most of it off. Some spots it scrapes some of the crinkle finish but the left side of the top is rusted anyway so it's not a big deal. I just want the white paint off. There was some glue spilled on it and that easily scraped off too. I'll work on it again but it's looking pretty good so far.

found this box on the side of the road left for bulky pickup so I grabbed it. could not find any markings on it other than the SEARS decals. any ideas of what year it could be?

front. there's a cover that slides down over the bottom shelfs.

Certainly has a Waterloo feel to it. You are a visionary, I think I might have left it sit.

Sure does.

After a better look at it today, I'm starting to think twice about my decision to save it. Pretty rusty in the shelves.

That's not half bad. if you want to go after the rust, and not goof the paint, I'd try Evaporust.

Yea, maybe I can try the evaporust paper towel saran wrap trick but it's fine for now. It just fits on my bench too. Hangs off by 1/2" which I'm ok with. Now I have a perfect place to store my punches, files, bits, and other small tools that never had a good home. Started organizing it a little.

I'm putting this in the vintage thread but not sure of the actual age. It was given to me about 5 years ago, but no background info. I just use it to store junk tools.

The brand is Heco, which is apparently a Spanish tool box company. I can't find much info on them. I guess if I spoke Spanish then maybe I could.

This particular box has been treated rough. Metal isn't a particularly heavy gauge, but seems to hold up well.

On the company webpage I see they still sell this model. Anyone have any more info?

That would be a nice basic set for someone. I think those style drawer pulls were late 80's, early 90's. Jake, any thoughts on that?

It's hard to tell from the photo if those are the Y style pulls or the J style pulls that came later. The data tag is in the same place as my 263 top. I "think" that they're the Y pulls, but I don't know the dates for that style. I think the top box is a model 266, the bottom should be a 293.

My early 90's 297 roller came with the J style pulls that are still being used. So if they're the Y pulls, then it would be sometime in the 80's I'm guessing.

My 263 has the Y style, and my newer 5150 mid box has the J style. But I don't know the dates for those boxes either.

I'm just making WAG's here.

Someone needs to save these boxes. The asking price is beyond a YS number.

That one has the Y style pulls. I have a drop front "middle" box of the same era. Never seen another like it. I was thinking that orange-ish red with Y style pulls and welded on slides was late 80's, but never really had much to back that up.

I'm curious, Bagged: do you buy beaters, fix 'em up and then sell them, or do you find people who are willing to pay you more than you paid for "seasoned" tool boxes?

I haven't fixed any up yet. Just a quick simple green cleaning.
So I successfully sold the first one which I was originally going to restore then try to sell. But then I decided to try to sell it as is. I didn't think it was going to sell but then it did. Then I bought another to try to sell as is and it actually went quick. So I'll keep it going. It's just not that easy to find these old boxes in not beat up shape.

Twins! Well, almost. My cousin was kind enough to pick these up for me today. I was going to restore the older box in the background, when I saw these pop up on CL yesterday. I texted the guy within an hour of posting it, he had them listed for $85 or b/o. I offered 75, and he took my offer. The pics he posted were pretty blurry, but I took the chance anyway, and boy am I glad I did! They are really clean, inside and out. The date stamps are 6/83 for the top, and 7/83 for the bottom. The older set in the background is from 1977 if I recall correctly. Gonna clean them tomorrow. Now I just have to decide whether or not to keep the older set.

My craftsman 6500 just arrived yesterday. Smaller than the last craftsman commercial one but very nice. All metal including the handles means it's an early 1960s model.

I love the period correct MTV sticker on that Waterloo, I had the same sticker on a storage box in early/mid 80's - back when MTV played music and videos. Martha Quinn was the best!

Thanks for sharing.

Just posting these pics out of love for my Huot box. I would love to find the matching bottom roller chest.

My Lista's are excellent no doubt and I've got a bunch of different chest's but the little Huot is my favorite to pull a tool out of it with it's cork lined drawers.

That's a very nice box and the cork probably helps resist moisture in the drawer too!

I had to say yes to these vintage CM boxes on a recent estate sale search.
