Nice, I sold my Hollands 24 a month ago, it was a nice vise but no room left in the garage LOL. One of the best swivel setups around in my opinion.

American Scale Red Seal vises are super rare in these parts but i did happen to find one that im going to look at later this week. Hopefully i can get it and not let it slip by.

"I just sold it..." is one of the worst statements that can be said over the phone when responding to a CL listing.

BTW bagged, my errand truck is a 1988 S10 4x4 long bed. I'm the 2nd owner and it only has 114K on the clock.

That truck looks to be in mint condition. Very nice! Mine started life as a 4x4 before I scrapped the stock chassis to build my own. :thumbup:

Sharing my Sawyer 604 1/2 D that recently fell into my lap. Getting some advise on how to clean it up but it really is in great shape for being so old. Used only by a little old lady on Sundays! :thumbup:

Decal for Luther #93 clamp vise

I spent the last two days working on a decal image for the Luther #93 I picked up this weekend, in preparation for a restoration (when I can get to it).

Here's the image in case anyone else needs to make a decal.

It should be printed on gold paper (or Gold Printable Adhesive Foil). If you don't have any, then use white decal paper and use a graphics program to change the white areas to gold/yellow.

I started with a screenshot of a Luther logo I found on the internet as the base, then compared it to the remnants of the decal on the vise as I built up the image.

The original image is in GIF format. The GJ site converts it to JPG and loses the transparency. It also changes the ppi from 300ppi to 72ppi, so I'm not sure how this will print out. You may need to resize the image for your use.

I'll ad this one, and the Columbian 804 decal to the Vise Repair 101 thread.

Balane : I agree with you on that. A collector or user will be getting a very solid vise. I have an Athol 614 in my small collection. I like the fixed base cornered into the bench top. All business.

I too was somewhat mystified by seeing that word in the ad. So, a little research...

In Merriam Webster I found that the term step off has this (among others) definition.
" an abrupt dropping off of a shore line into deep water "

I wouldn't have ever thought to use that term describing a vise!
Maybe if you're driving a mountain road with no guard rail you talk about the DROPoff...

I saw a CL listing yesterday that warranted further investigation so after a few emails, I went over today and took a look.

This little guy followed me home :drool:

It's my first versa vise and I don't know if I like it or if it's more of a useless gimmick vise for decoration only

MY $40 CL Columbian 504 1/2 cleaned up very nice with 48 hrs in the e-tank and 10 minutes with the cupped wire brush on the grinder. Just sprayed with wd40 for now. Not sure what I'll do with it, though I really like the rust oleum brush on gray with highlighted lettering.

A really bright blue, almost Psychedelic like blue seemed to be the base paint. Odd color, very odd, visible below

I saw that stand while on vacation when i was surfing CL. With the contoured shape i thought it might of been a shaping stand for leather working or something along those lines.

The vise....the Sawyer 604 1/2 D does swivel in all directions and not welded as confirmed earlier by someone. Can't wait to clean it up a bit!

I don't know exact dates but I was under the impression that Athol was bought out just after the turn of the century (1900 not 2000). The Athol name continued alone or with Starrett for some years but by the 20's or maybe 30's, I thought Athol was long gone on a vise.

Didn't realize there was any made-in-China swivel jaw vises. Not even 100% sure it is a swivel vise, overpriced whatever it is.

Doesn't look like the static jaw swivels... it just has a hardy cut-off tool. That appears to be a Taiwan-made "Allied" vise.

I'm with Ziggy on that. Many sources say the Taiwanese vises are not as bad as the Chinese ones. The Japanese ones then being superior to the Taiwanese.
And no way that jaw swivels! Hardy tool it is.
