I have a new, Chinese 1/4 Craftsman ratchet, but the ratcheting mechanism is so horrible compared to other HF ratchets I have that I can't use it anymore. I was looking at the new HF Pittsburgh and Tekon low profile ratchets. Figure I like the all polish metal look better and don't want to use the 20% coupon in 3 different trips, and there's a $10 of $45 Tekton on Amazon, I got three Tekton low profile ratchets. Made in Taiwan. They feel really nice, finish is flawless, ratcheting mechanism feels a little better than Pittburgh ratchets too. All three came in just over $50, which came down to $40 for Father's Day promotion. I couldn't find much information about these low profile ratchets, so I'm posting to share my thoughts.

Price is perfectly ok if they work for you. They don't look bad. Hopefully you will put them through some stress and find out what they are capable of quickly.

Dare I say it? They are easily better than Craftsman raised panel simply because of the fact they have more teeth. With that said, I have a Craftsman 3/8 long handle flex head I am trying to break but it does it's job.

If you don't already have them you're going to want to invest in the specialty ratchets like the flex heads, stubbies, etc.

I bought the same set of Tektons a while back and have been nothing but happy with them. The grips are very comfortable, the finish has held up well, and the ratcheting mechanism is smooth with very low backdrag. Great ratchets for the money IMO. Cranking on old rusted-up bolts hasn't fazed them at all.

I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that "The 1/2 head looks very large"; which of the picture are you using to make that judgement?

For $40 they seem fantastic value for money..... Loving the heavy duty work boots btw. :D

Oh... forgive the stupid question, but what is that Stanley tool you have there..?
It looks a little like half a hammer and half a fixed distance pipe wrench.

doesn't look any larger than most 1/2" ratchet heads... maybe they thought the long ratchet was a 1/2" due to lack of reading

the design is similar to the craftsman thin profile ratchets

I think he must have mistaken the 3/8" long flex for a 1/2", the Tekton's ratchet head is about average size for a modern 1/2" drive.

The 1/2 head looks very large unfortunately.

Bingo. I read the whole thing, just completely forgot. Now that I look at it, I'm going to say it looks perfectly average.

My apologies. Plenty of value to these ratchets at that price I'm sure.

Are they much thinner than a standard gearwrench ratchet? They're thin, but not impressively so from the pictures. Good value regardless, though.

These Tektons are 72 tooth ratchets. To me, when I turn them by hand, the engagement sound, the clicks, are softer and more consistent for the Tektons. But I'm compared these Tektons to those HF long flex's I have, not the HF low profiles. Or it could just be my imagination :D

Yup, you know, my garage my rules! :D. I actually took pics, went back in, checked the thread, and went back out just to get some more pics :D, and to take the tags off.
