Any tips on keeping the bit itself from clogging up with wood? each time I used it, it got hung up due to wood filling the grooves in the drill bit. Some kind of spray dry lube I can try? Soap? KY Lubricating Jelly?

1) Don't plunge so far on the first try - peck it a bit (machinists term - multiple small plunges).
I drill about 1/8" to 3/16", remove and rotate chrome barrel to dislodge chips and return to drilling.
2) Anything in terms of lubricant is more likely to cause clogging.

I use them with drilling jig templates on Lexan, but only as a spotting hole. Yes, it clogs quickly if you extend the bit too far. I'm used to clearing it after each hole.

It is vix, but manufactured by the Vick company.
I have only ever had problems with the cheaper versions clogging but as mentioned above go slow and rotate to clean out.
I actually just bought a full set of the Snappy hinge bits on Saturday.

Clogging is inevitable, but can be reduced with technique.

I fully endorse the Snappy Tool Bits. They disassemble and clear better than any other brand of Vix bit I have used. Robust, practical, user friendly design.

Same experience here. I love my Snappys.
