Not in my garage, or even outside it!

I'm at my daughter's in Statesboro, Ga. DAD my car is overheating and STEAM is coming out from under the hood!

690 miles and 11 hours later, I replaced the plastic heater hose fittings on her 05 Gran Prix 3800 engine.

Replaced with the newer style aluminum ones that are now available.

I took pictures but can't find them?

I found them, I said I had tard ****!

Started taking down the old OSB that the PO had up in the garage. Planning on re-insulating and re-sheeting it with new OSB.

Was going well until I found this by the garage door....

Youtube Video

Here's some of the old sheeting removed.

Put the ball onto the new drawbar and installed on truck. Used the HF special ball wrench, and no puppies died. Just how does one torque to 250 ft-lbs with a nut that big? (I know the answer is to find a socket that big and use my torque wrench)

Took a picture of the spare power mirrors for my 2004 Ram to get ready to sell. Started to get ready to install bug shield but it was raining too hard (truck does not fit "in" the Can-am Garage).

That's a fun job to do in the parking lot of a drugstore, That's when I realized GM loves 15mm and I don't drive GM's so the only 15mm in my truck bag was a shallow well and I had no extensions. And why wouldn't you want to run your heater lines through the alternator bracket :soapbox:

I did that job twice in my old grand prix. I didn't have much luck with the aftermarket dorman ones, but they were plastic not the new metal ones. I went back to factory ones. Curious how those last for ya.

Spent the morning getting the knock sensors replaced on a 2005 Z71. One of the pins from the knock sensors got jammed into its connector so I had to replace the wiring harness as well. The entire valley was filthy, crusty, nasty.

Spent the afternoon working out why a Ford AC could hold vacuum for an hour yet still leak. Friend at church told me he thought it was a seal in the compressor that would seal under vacuum yet leak under pressure. Gonna test that theory tomorrow with a new compressor. Making some good side money though.

Since I was dumb and did not order the Computer Pro, I have no volt meter. So, for fun, I created one that plugs into my Powerlet on the dash. This will work on any bike with a dash mounted Powerlet, so it applies to nearly all bikes potentially.

$3.59 delivered volt meter, waterproof.

Where did you get those? Link please?

Cleaned up some drywall scraps, dug out the kitchen chairs so my wife could repaint them, then got the new battery filled and installed in the xs11. Fired up immediately but only ran on full choke. Let it run for about 5 minutes to get the new gas through the carbs and let it sit. No progress on the actual garage yet. Maybe this weekend.

Picked up a new ride. A 1997 Westward Industries GO-4 Interceptor.

Quick specs:

Drivetrain: 1.3L 4 cylinder engine, 3 spd transaxle all from a Ford Aspire. 68 hp, top speed around 80 mph. Converted to propane.

It was in the low 90's when I worked on it yesterday, fixing a myriad of little things the previous owner had complained about. Didn't take long to fix a broken seat adjuster, reassemble dash components, cleaning, more cleaning, replacing missing nuts and bolts for the body panels, etc. Got to put in a radio next, wheel covers, and a replacement seat. Always more to do.

Got it for a bargain. They run $3-4K in running condition. Got this one for $1750. Took another $300 to get it licensed and transferred again.

More and more stuff to do!

Visited the local trailer shop about some repairs (I don't weld) to the 16ft ATV trailer.

Repacked the bearings on one side, started into the bushings to grease the sh&t out of them as some were frozen after the long winter's abuse.

I will go back to get the welding done.

Thanks to Mrs Outlander & the GJ, I had all the right tools (welder excluded) to get the job done!

I like that!! When I was a kid, I bid about $100 on an old worn out Cushman from my hometown. Didn't get it. Dang.....

Well this wasn't just today...but a few weeks worth of work.

Years ago a few friends and I built a pig roaster, 2 big propane tanks welded together. At the time we hosted a huge party, and roasted 1x 120lbs and 1x 50lbs pigs @ the same time... 170lbs of pig ...MMM.

Moving forward, a new friend asked if I wanted to build another. YES I would.

So, he sourced a single propane tank, found a cheap old trailer, we gathered the parts & pieces and although it's not 100% finished, I dropped it off today, before we take off for our camping trip.

He is hosting a family get together, expecting 35-45 people, and Saturday will roast a 70lb pig.
We still want to add;
the option of a grill (for normal BBQ duties pre/post roast)
stand over back to rest spit onto for carving pig
baskets to toss 'taters, corn, etc in
chimney, has a hole cut in it for now, but a proper chimney would be better
add stabilizers/jacks @ each corner to level it (I have old ones from our camper)
few other things I can't think of

This spit is turning about 1.8rpm If I remember correctly. Wood is some unidentified hardwood I collected a year ago. Spit is 1" stainless. Handles on either end are to lift top half of tank of tank off (to put pig in)
I also got to use my newly refurb'd metal lathe for the first time, to get everything that fits onto the spit the right inside diameter.

Long story, here's the pics of the first burn (gotta get rid of all that **** on it)

lathe @ work

short clip of everything rotating nicely.

been a busy day,
finally got the wagon i was building painted, just waiting on some decals.

last night, i was helping a neighbor that was having some problems with his engine hoist, as "payment" he offered me anything that he had loaded in his truck for a scrap run.

i brought home 3 more wagons for Camp Riley.

we donate wagons to the summer camp for handicapped kids...

neighbors also gave me a smallish wagon that belonged to the kids of the original owners of my house. he'd been "storing" it for 30-40 years.....

i'm gonna keep that one, and make some yard art out of it. we thought it'd be a nice tribute to the family that built this house and raised their 6 kids here...

After buying another 4.x lbs of Grade 5 hardware at TSC, I tossed them in two different bags. I spent about 5 minutes sorting it out. Not much progress, just one of those days.

I spent the day putting everything away and preparing for my departure to Australia for work. It has been a nice 3 month vacation. I got a lot done in this time.

Made a stand for my grass catcher, out of bed frame material, instead of piling it in a corner.

Finished up an antler mount. I acquired the antlers from a home purchase. They were hanging above the front door. I watched a couple of how-to videos on Youtube and here is the result.

Made the big decision to move the pegboard from the far wall to over the bench. Did it mainly to make the most out of the wasted space between the bench and shelf. It's about 20 minutes after the first arrangement so we'll see how it works and how things change. Open spot to the right of the bench is the future home to a welder and torch.

They are mounted very solid, but easy enough to remove for track days... Still have to make a carpeted cover for the bottom...

Cleaned up. Moved my welding consumables to the new cabinets. Welded up two broken milk crates(I like them to stand on). Made a bunch of little air filters for the ceramic studio dehumidifier. The factory ones are $50+ each. Mine are made of butchered filtrete allergen filters. I get 2 little filters out of each big one. So $40 for 8 filters. Started taking apart some old phones I'm intending to bash into one new one. Still not sure how that's going to pan out.
