Thrum: i'm guessing your American Scale # 79 weighs about 190 pounds? no hurry on this, but if you do take the time to weigh it and post the # can you measure the handle for me because i'm pretty sure American Scale made my Wilton 600 swivel jaw vise. nice find and hopefully the seller didn't damage it at all before you were able to buy it. that one is a keeper and nice find.
Drivesitfar, the handle on the no. 79 is 15.5".

I don't know what size it is. All I know it was a craftsman was $15. will have to ask the scum buckets who took it from me what size it is perhaps he will enlighten us!

I have ... and for a larger one I would have, especially if it was a swivel base. Clamp the 2 by in the jaws before putting the sides and end . Then run screws through the sides to secure it to the crate.

Got home from work today and checked the local CL. Reed vise for sale. Meh, I don't care for Reed personally but lets open it and see. A Reed model 20 No, its a 2C. Text the seller and he accepts my offer for $60

Picked up a Record 23 vice this evening, nothing unusual there, quite a common vice you might think....... except for one thing .... this is a woodworking vice not the usual metal working vice And to add to that it's a woodworking vice in the style of the early Parkinson woodworking vices.
Will get some pictures in the morning as it's 3.45am here

YOU ****!! That might be the vise I want the most and I haven't even seen one in person yet. I haven't even seen any combination vises in person around here.
In the Milwaukee/Chicago area, as I do travel for a good deal (this one was very local), I have seen a few combos, but not too many. And they usually go for $$. I must say at like 85 lbs or whatever the 2C weighs it must be about the perfect home owner size. As soon as I found out the pipe jaws were intact, I was on my way! If they were missing I was prepared to take a pass.
The only other Reed i've owned was a 204. That got traded to Jreb in a deal for the massive Parker 436. I pass on most others I see because I just don't need a 104, 204, or anything like that. And Reeds are not on my top 5 favorite brands, but this guy is a keeper.

The first 2C I grabbed was priced at 60.00 and I offered the guy 80.00 so he wouldn't sell it until I could get down there. They are frequently listed at Reed 10,20,30 or 40. Nobody assumes that is actually a "C" on there.

Seems strange that the Record is in quotes, perhaps indicating that they were made for Record rather than by them? Just a wild stab in the dark though.

As for colors... be creative. Find an inspiration and create. Styling the vise is the fun part. Your vise looks like an 80's ? I'm guessing... so if it's clean and works perfectly ... 250-350 depending on your market. Of course you can always pimp it on ebay too like others. I like to deal with real people. Even if I ship one I still get to learn something about the people I sell to. To me it's about the total experience. The find, buy, creation, restoration , and the sell. Finding that connection with a buyer or seller can be very meaningful . All tools are a very personal thing . We use them to repair or create and spend a lot of our time with them in our hands. For me , Grabbing the handle of a 100 year old vise is like shaking hands with the men of the past who not only used them but those who made them as well.
So sure there is a profit to be made , but there are deeper meanings for our work. Remember, You traded a day of your life for this work so make it count !

Yup, it was sold by PinchPoint in Ohio. Maybe there was only 3. Mine showed up first sometime in late august, it was the holiday weekend, and I finally cleaned it up and took photos of it on Halloween.
Didn't your come from some old guy on CL for like 75.00?

Gore: it looks like your Wilton bullet has a chunk missing under the static's removable jaw. can you pull the dynamic jaw out and turn the static over and check it out and take a few pictures? also while you have the dynamic out did you say what the date stamp said for our Wilton date stamp thread?

$75 on CL a little NE of Pittsburgh, not an old guy though. Mid to late 30's, wish he did seem like an old guy to me.
You're right Drives, he was asking $75 and held it for a few days while I was out of town. Great guy, not every Clist seller would've held it while he was getting bombarded with offers.
