Spareparts, for cutoffs you mean lumber for rack shelves, not something else right?

What I meant was random lengths and width's of lumber usually piled up to be discarded, either burned or placed in dumpster. I could get as much as I wanted to use for the shelf boards on my pallet racks. My racks had 9' cross bars and had the same situation as you, the second set of racks stopped right by a window so I made one shelf a workbench with a view, rather nice to work at the bench and look out a window. My racks were 36" so anything over 3' went into the trailer, sure saved me a ton of $$$$.

Mine are 36" as well, so that's a good idea, and i'll look around for houses getting built. Thanks.

As i cleaned up yesterday, i managed to get most everything pulled away from the south wall all the way to the end of the semi finished area. Or i should say poorly finished area. I did this many years ago as a precursor to putting in some bad workbenches that were too tall and way too wide. I didn't want to have to pull them back out at the time, so i put visqueen on the wall behind the drywall and on top of the wall as a vapor barrier. But then the rest of the walls never got finished, so no insulation was added. In the meantime, i changed the construction to 1/4" OSB as a barrier to the steel instead of the visqueen. Once everything was cleaned out of the way, i pulled the sheets and found this:

The mice had setup shop in there and shredded most of the plastic. Based on the damage, i can only guess that an army had used it to raise hundreds of generations of baby mice. None to be seen now, but they're probably lurking. I probably need a bucket of antifreeze sitting around.

Since the window on that wall that was left was a piece of ****, and barely working, i tore the wall apart to replace it with the last of the 5x5' windows sitting in the office.

And this is where i ended tonight:

My boy and I put the window in the newly framed opening. They changed the chance of rain for tomorrow down to 20% (THANK GOD, the amount of rain here this year is just retarded) so i'll put the weatherproofing, j-channel and steel back up tomorrow. I took the day off so it should be a good days' work to get it all done.

Then i'll put some effort into the interior stuff and finish that off, should be good to use the sprayer on that and get er done quick. I can put up one more section of racking before i have to finish the 2nd row of ceiling steel all the way to the wall, which will lose me another pair of lights. I think i'm going to move them to the tops of the wall temporarily until i get some T5HO's.

More later.

Today, i got the steel back up, cleaned up my mess, and started on the wiring changes needed because of the window moving.

I'm working right up to my tools. Every time i look at them, i want to get them put back together and start using!

Tomorrow, i'll work on getting walls put back together.

Took a bit of a break tonight and picked up my car. She's been in the body shop over 3 weeks and i missed her!

After that, went into the shop and finished wiring, and threw up a couple of 1/4 osb sheets and some stringers. Didn't really get that much done, but everybody has an off night now and then.

86: i'm pretty sure we both have the same genes or blood in our veins. we like finding deals and organizing will be put on our grave markers. you have a great garage and looks like it's coming together nicely.

I heard mention of purchasing a fork lift which is a good idea, but if you can't find one or don't have the funds yet might i suggest a pallet fork lift. i found one made by Jet and it has lifted some very heavy items off my trailer. I'm waiting for the kids to move out so my wife and i can move out of the city and buy a piece of ground to build a small house and a huge shop before i buy a fork lift. or at least that's the plan (dream).

keep up the great work and don't forget to keep taking those pictures because we love them and I'm sure it helps you too.

good luck

That's a neat little pallet jack. Only downside is you have to have space for the legs under whatever shelf you have. We have something similar at work, but it doesn't get used much.

Last night, i got all the 1/4 OSB up. That pretty much killed the night. Lots of cuts.

Probably nothing done tonight.

Well the cat's out of the bag. Wife caught me working on the shop. She wondered what i was doing out here. She had been getting concerned that nothing was getting completed on the house, and once she saw all the progress, she was elated and i have the rubber stamp to continue. Woo Hoo!

Finished hanging all the osb and drywall for the last of the sections for now.

and insulated under the window so that i don't have to get cellulose under the window.

The wallboard fell off the lift when i was taking them down the first time, so i have some patching to do.

Here's an overall shot from getting started today:

Got the patches done to the damaged wallboard, just cut out the bad and cut patches to fit. Mudding to start shortly, and hopefully it'll dry quick. It's HOT out here.

Got the WIFI plugged back in out here, running off a megabit fiber connection. Now if i could only figure out how to post pictures on my threads from my phone, i wouldn't even have to come inside!

You can try tapatalk, but it is hit or miss. Sometimes the pictures seem to have a mind of their own. I thought I was the only one working to prove their Independence.

Strouty and 86: don't feel like the lone ranger. i tried tapatalk and didn't work well for me either so i always post pictures from my laptop and most of my posts too.

a few guys don't seem to have an issue so maybe i'll start a thread to see how we can resolve it for all of us. i upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my Windows phone and i don't even get the top section of GJ's front page now.

86: looking good

Lol. I have nothing else to do. Fireworks were yesterday, everyone else is just lying around today. I just can't do it. I have tapatalk on my phone, but i don't know how to get the links from photobucket copied over. Cell phones baffle me. Which is crazy, because i am a pretty tech oriented guy. Heck, i built an AV server for my house, it shouldn't be that hard right??? :headscrat

Tapatalk lets you post pictures directly. They just don't always end up the orientation you want them and it seems there is no rhyme or reason. I would try posting with their tools and see what happens. You can always fix them later.

I'm hosting pictures on photobucket. Not on GJ. I think that if i tried to do it your way, i'd have pictures in two places. So when i post pictures on this thread, i just drop a link to a spot on photobucket in the post. It's very quick on the computer, but not so much on the phone.

86: i stopped using Photobucket when they became so ad oriented about a couple years ago. i used to love their service and would have paid for it and now they want money and it doesn't work half as well.

do you take pictures with your cell phone? if you do the pictures are saved to your cell so maybe you can attach with the paperclip method like i do on my laptop.

i'll start a thread before i run back out to work in my yard that is about 100 degrees currently. post up your questions there and maybe we can all figure this damn issue out together.

cheers and maybe organize some of those cool old tools or set up some more racks.

They host directly from tapatalk. When I am mobile it seems easier, but I prefer my own from photobucket. Except it is getting hard to find things with several thousand pictures that can't be searched.

This is the type of stuff that irks me about GJ. Here I am, not one person around me that gives a ****, not one person that has the same interests, not one person that will help me out. Here are two great people with similar interests yet we are miles apart. Why is it like that? I was watching star trek last night and I really wish we could beam around the country.

No, I saw a bit of it once, and decided I wanted to sit down and watch it in a block, but never got to it. Big faves in our house are stargate, farscape, dr. Who. And star trek of course. Wife is into it too.

You need to watch firefly. It is excellent. If you want the down and dirty you can watch the movie "serenity" and that will give you a taste. It will mess up a few plots, but nothing you will regret.

It was, but it will pretty much make you want to watch more. They did a really good job. I am a Who fan and my GF is a convert. I was never a huge star trek fan, but I have watch most of them. Another one I really liked was "Sliders". Now I may go home and watch so movies!

Very cool. I started on who in the late 70s. Baker ftw! Once the new ones came out, got the wife hooked, although I enjoy the older ones more. More cerebral and less dashing about.
I liked the first 2 seasons of sliders. They really dropped the ball later though.

Baker was the best, the scarf was awesome! It has been so long since I watched sliders, I can't remember much past the first season or two. My GF wants to make a tardis for the house.

I might have missed it, but why the osb on bottom and drywall on top (vs all the same of one or the other)? Just curiosity.

Keep up the good work getting cleaned up!

Osb for durability on the bottom. Drywall on the top out of harms way and because I have a bunch leftover.

Looking great!

I assume the pallet racking won't cover the windows. Don't forget you can cut off the beams, weld the ends on and have it go OVER the window though. It will make the whole setup strong and leave your windows open :)

Without being hooked by forklifts, pallet racking almost doesn't need anything to prevent it from tipping over... a small bolt on the top will be fine.

The pallet racking bottom shelf covers the top 6in or so of the windows. I didnt want to raise it and lose the space. I do have a lag bolt into a 2x4 near the top. I ran a 2x4 on the inside of the drywall matching up.
