Cool.

I've got 52 cutters awaiting pickup today by UPS.

I have about 2 dozen remaining for the stragglers, two that I've pre-paid for so they can pay via Paypal later (when it clears), 2 warranty extras, and a box of circuit boards....

Look forward to getting the remainder out to the rest of you and hope that the cutters was worth the money and the wait.

Sean

Thanks, Sean... I was wondering what was up with that. Maybe I could snail mail you a check, and once it clears you could clear me from Jerry's Kids, er, Special Status to Paid and Done... and get me my cutter! Sure, I can wait for the PP snafu to get turned around, but damn, listening to y'all talk about your cool new toys, well, I'm getting anxious! (If that's OK with you shoot me a fast PM with the info, ok?)

Also - in a way I'm lucky, as y'all are doing the "smoke testing" on these, so when I get mine I can go down the list, make the necessary "corrections", and be G2G!

I was cutting around 1/8inch with 60psi and 44amp, dont know if that is correct, it was working fine
I could also use use a little more info on that.

How much CFM does your compressor put out? I have a "2 tank special" dewalt portable on a separate circuit from my 220 feed, and if it'll put out enough air to run it, so much the better. (Now if I can only get my friend in the EU to send me that 220 truck inverter... heh heh heh...)

Buzzing...No.
Mine did when I first energized. Buzzed like a relay that couldnt decided it it should be on or off. In my case too eager to see it on, I hadnt hooked up any of the cables or air. Turned it off-hasn't done it again. Dont know if it needed energizing-fluke or what. But I havnt plugged in again without connecting everything including air 1st. Though I honestly dont see that would make difference if torch not turned on.
Not much help but after plugging in nothing should happen, turning on, fan should come on for a moment ?

The buzzing could be the points arcing as they will, but only with the trigger pushed. There should only be fan noise when turned on and maybe a few short relay clicks.

Cutter in the garage. Decisions - do I use the filter set-up I've got in tandem with the provided one or just use the filter/regulator from the box? Still have to repair the trigger, install some type of stress relief clamp on the trigger wire and get another (smaller) relief clamp for the power cord. That'll teach me for thinking I knew what size cord it would show up with.
Going on days for the 4 day shift stretch so it will be Tuesday before I'm going.

It was sitting on the porch when I got home today. Right beside the valve covers that took awhile to find. Double Christmas in July. :D Thanks again Sean.

I mounted this on the wall.

Attached this to the power cable of the cutter.

Grabbed a chunk of 5/8 plate I had in the corner for a test.
I cleaned the surface with a quick pass from the grinder and then cut.
I'm happy!

Mine is still in the box unopened

Gotta see which will be the best plug for the electrical connection and what needs to be fixed so I can be G2G also

Just got mine. works perfect. only glitch is the barb fittings for the air line are too large for the supplied clear hose, but made it work.

now need to learn the right settings for the thickness...time to play!

Thanks again Aquamoose!!

Today I swapped out that 2 meter+/- power cord for a 20 foot SOOW 12awg. Now it will reach everywhere in the garage and out on to the apron in front. Much better!

Went through the cutter last week, no loose connections, nothing obvious touching anything. Added a cord and outlet and took it out yesterday to test out. Other than tripping the over current switch a few times it cut excellent. I used some rusty 5/16 plate and it cut very well, even better with a straightedge. Once I figured out the angle to start the cut to minimize the blowback the cut was clean with minimal dross.

My ESAB from my old work cut a little cleaner but not much. I also severed a 1/2 inch bolt in and it did excellent, I can see many uses for the cutter I hadn't considered and the size is perfect.

Thanks Sean for all your work on this, it was well worth the wait.

GUY"S, This is with a VERY HEAVY HEART, after all this time, I'm going to sell mine.

The cutter arrived Monday June 29.

Still in the box. Not opened.

If any GJ members are interested in,Ohio, the Southwest quadrant, I would be up to meeting at a halfway point to save on shipping, JUST the cost of what it has cost me, invoicing from AquaMoose .

Now another malfunction, I'm in Georgia now until July 18th, I can't even go and help or look at Kevin's new addition to his garage!!

I'm not keeping this to Ohio members, but it would be easier.

Somehow, let me know after July 20th ?
I'd be interested if anybody else changed their mind and wants to sell. I can provide a pre paid ship label for you to drop off at a FedEx office.

So is anyone planning on a long extension cord or replace the existing cord with a long one? I am thinking at least 20'.

Mine came with an 8' cord, so I'm just going to make myself a 25' longer cable. I've used my fathers for years like a blow torch - works well for hacking **** up and cutting things off of frames.

I hardwired in a 20' SJOOW 10awg cord replacing supplied cord not wanting to use extension cord. But its proving to be a bit on the short side by about 5', regardless of how many times I pre-measured.
Pretty sure Im redoing changing it to 35', possible reducing to 12awg, however if I can I am seriously thinking of adding a male inlet on machine, just make storing easier using detachable cord.

Just set mine up today. Works fine, though I need some time to adjust power vs air pressure to get perfect no-dross cuts.

The zip ties that help the torch on were loose, as was the torch handle itself. Cleaned up them, and wrapped it up.

Overall, a great buy, and I think I'll get good use from it.

The directions were pretty sparse, though most of it was self-evident, I was surprised that there was no insight at all for connecting the air regulator, etc.

If anyone doesn't want their cutter, Sean is keeping a list of those of us "purple people" that got hosed but are still wanting one. If you work through him your unit will make its way to those of us that were on the list, paid for a unit, paid for supplies, paid for extended warranty, and paid extra dollars as a tip to Sean, but then got screwed by paypal.

Like bucksnort, I am one of the 30 people that in good faith prepaid via paypal and then got stiffed. I am on the list in purple as paid but missed the communication to send a money order.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help Sean fulfill the initial group buy and then if there are spares and leftovers other people can have at.

I have about 2 dozen remaining for the stragglers, two that I've pre-paid for so they can pay via Paypal later (when it clears), 2 warranty extras, and a box of circuit boards.

PLEASE do send pictures of bad or questionable connections, faulty wiring, etc to me. I will forward them to the manufacturer. I did speak to them about it (along with a few other issues) and they're asking for pictures. They did tell me that since the last shipment, they have upgraded the torch heads with a new trigger-style type. Made me wonder why they didn't present that option to us then...

Hope everyone's getting their cutters and applying those checks & fixes, especially the plastic sheath that burns easily. Personally, I fired mine up and it gave me no issues but after reading about one member's burnt connection in the torch handle, I took apart mine and saw that there was room for improvement so I tightened the screw and wire tied the tube covering the connector to the main body so it won't slip down and expose the connection. I've yet to put a larger heat shrink tube on it that I have lying around. Next, I'm going to find a leather wrap suggested by Ameshel.

I should add, I want to apologize for getting the cutters out so slow. The manual data entry and triple checking everything made for a slow progress on top of my work/family time. I've learned a lot so no regrets here.

Look forward to getting the remainder out to the rest of you and hope that the cutters was worth the money and the wait.

Ok, seeing as some got hosed by the paypal snafu, I haven't even opened my box yet, and I already have a plasma anyway. I'll offer mine up at cost to someone who needs one. However, the last two posts wanting one have no location identified in their profiles?

First email EDIT: from a name in purple on "the list" to [email protected] gets it for what I've spent, as long as that covers shipping.

Cutter is going to a Purple name pending payment.

Mine didn't come with orange hose but if that's the least of my problems, I'll be good. The heat seals on bags were OK but one split on the side. Sounded like marbles rolling around inside but all was there. I've had the torch head apart and screw was tight, need some more tubing or heat shrink as others have done.

Has anything else been said about final cost adjustments? I remember reading that some additional fees made their way in and I'd hate to see Sean get stuck with them...

Thats generous twersty, hadnt realized the status of some of the 'purple people' wasnt by choice...

As too the ground clamp I had taken mine apart. Other than the cable could stand to be longer, mine the strap inside between halfs a bit short, cant fully open, pulls strap taught and shortens throat. Couple of other things that might be looked at I found on mine.
IMG_1591s.jpg
Unscrewing to remove cable bolt noted the shrink warp excessive, The eyelet not contacting either nut. Must have been grounding thru edge of hole. Simple, some trimming back of shrink tube needed. Though I ended up removing to inspect the crimped eyelet. Was Ok but re-staked anyway. Slipped over a long enough piece to cover cable where it passes thru handle. The hole in handle had already started cutting thru cable sheath as the punched hole in handle had a serious knife edge inside. Used round file to deburr.

IMG_1592s.JPG
Removed bolt only to find the strap doesnt have ends. Already close to edge so cant do anything with it. Next time at auto parts Ill pick up a 4"strap. Funny how easily and fast unravels. Funnier are the off center nuts.

At the machine end nice connector, but as else where cable totally unrestrained. Outer rubber slides back, added some tube, zipped for now.

A short update:

Hope everyone had a safe 4th.

I'll be working on getting the remainder of the cutters out. Thanks for those who notified me with their clearance to ship. I now have about a handful of folks to try to contact.

Another note: If you are having a change of heart and wish to sell your cutter, please consult with me (voluntarily) so I can put you in touch with one of the "purple" members who paid via PayPal but missed the mass shift to money order.

I'm now back from my business/mini vacation so I will be devoted to this until it's complete.

Anyone who feels like taking the cover off, I am interested to know if all the fets and diodes have heat sink grease under them. If there is enough grease, there will be a little border of the white stuff around the device.

If there is no grease, it is an easy fix that will add a lot of life to the machine.

The heat sinks in the one photo I saw look belt sanded, so they may not be very flat.

Again, this is not a slam on the unit. Costs have to be reduced in production to get the final price, that is just a reality.

One wants perfect buy from DEC. Oh right, they are no longer in business... :lol_hitti

So is dielectric grease even slightly compatible with heat sink grease? And where in the hell would a fella find heat sink grease? One set (upper or lower) had the grease marking fairly obviously, the other just looked a little white at the top on the cutter I was sent.

No, dielectric grease is not the same.
I would look for heat sink compound at a computer store, one that builds pc's or sells the components to build one. Maybe an auto parts store, ignition modules in distributors use the heat sink grease.

Heat sink grease has thermally conductive powder in it. Some choices for the powder are

Boron nitride
Zinc Oxide
Aluminum nitride
Silver

Here is a wiki list of thermal conductivity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_thermal_conductivities

Air has a conductivity of about .02 Watt/(meter degree Kelvin)

Silver based heat sink grease is around .94 Watt/(meter degree Kelvin)

The thermal conductivity value is a pain in the *** to measure.

Got my tracking number today. Thanks Sean and awesome job on this whole thing.

I have had a number of serious setbacks lately (not the least of which is all the flooding) and I am in need of just locking myself in the shop and pouring over this thread to get ideas on setting it up and ignoring my problems.
