In other news, I am still waiting for Public Service to hook up my power. I am also installing cabinets that a friend got me from the local hospital when they did a renovation. They are pretty sweet and should work out well.

So the power has been hooked up for a while now, and the cabinets are painted and installed.

I called the inspector for final inspection, and was denied. The main reason is vinyl siding and roof soffits. He also noted that I had been moving things into the building, and politely asked me to stop doing this until the building is finished.

Why was he objecting to vinyl siding and sofits? That's crazy....probably 50% (or more) of all new construction these days uses vinyl.

It's a garage.....mine wondered why I even waited to start putting stuff in it before I had it inspected.

Of course you are going to have stuff to store....it's not living space for cripes sake...

BTW,

I noticed the paint scheme looks vary familiar. Check my garage link below to see what I mean....

No, I don't have the vinyl or sofits done yet. I'll post the letter later. This guy is a ball buster.

I had a buddy of mine at work bend up a Stainless cover for where my pex tubing comes out of the floor. I think it came out pretty sweet!

My dad had a garage he was very proud of. He had several shelves and a display case where he kept his collectibles. He's been gone for a while now, and my mom is just starting to feel like she can start moving some things out of the garage. I made a shelf in my shop last week and moved his oil can collection to my shop this weekend. I was very pleased with how it looked. Kind of classed the place up a little.

I am right next door in Rochester. I have heard your building inspector is a strict SOB my brother in law did a plumbing job in Barrington and even though everything was done to NH code this guys wanted special things done that are not required by code, but because he wanted them that way.

A very handsome building. As to the guys who have some memorobilia from their dads...I have the original sign that hung over the door of my fathers Shell station in 1957, It is Shell yellow with red lettering with his name on it. It is over my desk out here in the garage. Also on the wall I have 4 of his Lincoln/Mercury mechanics registrations from 1952 to 1955. They are fading and look very cool. I remember him often even though he has been gone for 22 years now.

we are moving to the Stratham, Exeter - Rockingham county area. ... Right now I am working on the rally car ...

Did you ever move to Stratham? Are you still working on your rally car? Running SCCA, rallycross? I did some rallycross and autocross, with some help from my 25x40 3-bay and in-ground lift in Greenland. :)

Here's a couple pics of my bolt bins and a SST cabinet I got from a hospital.

The bolt bins are both American (1/4 to 3/4) & metric(7MM to 14MM)

IMG_0109.jpg

The sst cabinet came with pegboard already attached so I use it to hange every corded tool I have.

Nice build, I read your thread from start to finish..and I like it. Although you have invested alot more than I'm willing to do, but yours is very nice..mine (when I get the $$$ will just be for working in and finally putting my mustang into-it's been outside for 11 yrs just put up. I am currently housing alot of the tools my father gave me in my two car garage, as well as most all the wood for the framing of my shop (it will be a 24 by 30 to start) which leaves just enough room for my motorcycle. I plan on having more concrete poured than that for future expansion so that it can be added onto easier.
P.S.... Sorry for the loss of your father.

It's been a long time since I've posted. I started this build when I was in my late thirties. I wanted to get it finished, because I felt like I was getting too old to use it. Now I turned fifty last December. When I first started this build thread, I felt like it was a pretty modest build compared to a lot of the others on here, and to be honest, I kind of resented the guys with the lavish builds, polished floors, and endless specialty tools & boxes. Now I understand a little more how it works. When your young, you barely have enough tools to get done the things that you need too. And as you get older, you already have all the basic stuff, and now you've been around long enough to have a few good deals fall into your lap, and you've had the means to acquire them. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I hope you young fella's don't think I'm showing off, but if you do too bad. If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a quarter of the ambition, motivation, or testicular fortitude to do the projects I did when I had a quarter of the tools I do now.

For several years, a friend has been telling me about a gantry crane at his work, that was deconstructed, and in a pile, and needed to be removed. I kept offering them $800, and they kept turning it down. Finally one day they told him to get rid of it. He offered them $400, and they said fine, get it out of here.

It took me a while to figure out how to hang it without using the posts that it came with. I finally figured it out by looking on the company website and seeing how they hang them. I ran LVL across the existing trusses, and also fabricated a brace that runs out over the walls. It's pretty fricken sweet.

I cut slots in the sheet rock and ran the supports beside the existing trusses. Then I supported the ends on 10" LVLs.Photo is with one end in place.

When I built the garage, I intentionally did not account for any storage upstairs. I did not want to be
A. carrying things upstairs.
B. Making an unmanageable mess.
c. Storing things I didn't need, and forgetting that I have.

Years later, storage had become a bit of a problem.

Here is the solution

My last post for the day. I had originally hung a bunch of pegboard off the back of a bench, and around my flammables cabinet. Over the years, the weight of all my heavy tools along with dampness of a none constant heat source had taken its toll on the poor old peg board. So I ponied up and built a proper divider wall with shelves and cabinets, and bought all new Wall Control brand galvanized pegboard.

It's been nearly ten years since my Dad passed away. This is his little spot in my shop. This is the tool belt & tools that he used for 50+ years, fixing appliances, and such. on the left is me as a child on his shoulders, and on the right is him up on the roof of the shop, checking on our work, just weeks before he died of stomach cancer. There are a lot of things I wish he would have lived to see. He would have liked the garage. He got to build his own garage later in his life, but he got to enjoy it as much as anyone ever has.

For the next video, you need to kick it up a notch. Maybe drift it around the Lee traffic circle a couple times?? Just kidding, as amazing as it would be to watch, I don't think a drag car drifts very well, let alone one with those massive meats and stock hp. Plus the PD is probably sitting 2 minutes away.

I am jealous of the garage and car build! I hope to add another garage/workspace someday, but will happy if I can give my current 2 stall a little polish and lipstick.

In high school, (early 90's) I loved driving my brothers crappy 79 Camaro, but the best Camaro I have driven was about 6 years ago in my late brother-in-laws 69 Camaro with a fuel injected 502 and 6 speed. It was cold blooded, but had an amazing sound and apparently ran best on AVgas.

It hasn't been stock horsepower for a couple of years, and believe it or not I have kicked the *** out around the Lee circle several times. The rear tires are pretty old so it doesn't have too much of a hard time getting crooked. I wish I would have had my **** together for the burnout competition at Lee Speedway a couple of weeks ago.Olympic Rings.jpg
