if mine would have been that style i would not have let it go, thats cool as heck

After working on a Massey wood vise this weekend then seeing all the Massey's on here this week already, I'm getting Massey envy... :eyecrazy:

I see that this one of yours Tedsters is a quick release, I have a strong feeling Drives may be as well , but of a different style. I really like the shape and slide design

Oooops.........I did it again!

Been a while since I have bought a vise.

The prices around here have skyrocketed.

But I do so love a nice Parker.

Saw an ad on CL for a table with grinder and vise for $70.

Grinder and table not what I wanted, so called and asked how much for the vise?

$40 he said, and the number on it is 974 1/2.

But someone cut off the end of the nut, leaving a hole in the end.

It is rusty, but has the wrench.

Drove over to get it this evening.

Worth the trip! It looks way bigger in person.

Bill

BCZ: any idea why the end of the hub on the main screw is cut off? now i understand why you passed on the steel table and motor for $30 more. i would have had a hard time leaving that steel table there.

TOP: i didn't see my Massey today, but you have my interest peaked. sorry to help with your vice for vises, but you seem to be doing ok letting a few go down the road.

Fretters: thanks and is it has hard or as expensive to ship from Czech republic to England as it is from the US?

I gave I 5.00 bucks for this at the same place I gave 50 for a 5197. I didn't give it much thought but I pulled it out and was trying to figure out who the maker may be. It's forged in , Made in USE And has part numbers on each piece beginning with V96 and V97. I have seen a lot of makers do this. The base style is different than most vise's this size and the mounting hardware for the jaw inserts is what really got me curious. I know Wilton made a ton of lil vise's like this but I can't say I seen a base on them like this . Any idea's out there. ?And what kind of a fastener is this?

Top: i think we figured that Milwaukee made the vises with a V on them. so many makers made that particular vise it must not have had a patent or the guy that owned it sold the rights to it to everybody.

I have yet to take apart an open screw vise so you'll have to get that clip or stop type from them.

Drives, My hardware question was about the jaw insert fasteners. You ever see this style of fastener

Balane,---I'm going to send you a dozen of my best vises and I will have paid shipping for them there and back, and I will pay you $200.00 just to go to the FedEx shipper and lay hands on the boxes.---Don't even open the boxes, just lay hands on them and then tell them to send them on back.---Because it's obvious you have the Midas touch.

Actually you're getting well compensating for excellent work.--Good job.

Top: i can't say I've seen that style before. i wonder if a small flat head screw driver with a thick point might get them out? or the easy out would be my next choice and then replace with something normal.

VA: i bet it would be cheaper to fly Balane out to your house and just rattle the chain. :lol_hitti

Picked this Bessey Welding Vise at a yard sale for WAY under $5 Ia bunch of tools came with it for the $5)

I'm calling it a vise as it has mounting holes, but could be used as a clamp also.

2" capacity, and can be used for corner welds or Tees

Now, to get it into the garage without the wife noticing.....;)

If I take it straight in the garage she NEVER notices... Its the stuff that stops in the kitchen for pics, but even that if she does notice, its either a gloss over it, or "hey, that looks cool (and sometimes "what is it?... ;) )"

Good one Drive.---But really money is not a factor.---After the Midas Man lays hands on them, I'm going to have one solid brass vise and 12 solid gold ones.---What's a few shipping bucks?;)

Outlaw,---Bessie's are getting a lot of play in the last few pages.---That is a neat little right angle vise.---Looks like a small picture framing vise, but too heavy duty made for that.

The trouble with getting old........is that, by the time you can find and afford the largest vises............you can no longer pick them up, to drag them home!

Bill

As a "Senior Citizen"...;)

I am fully in agreement...

And...

Along with Outlaw...:lol::ninja:

We resemble that remark...

Exactly that. The 2" cap. is for a Tee joint, I haven't' opened it fully to see what it can do for a corner...

The screws are called butterfly.....Automotive used them in the 60's -70's....I used the have a couple different size Craftsman screwdrivers for those screws...

Outlaw: i was thinking your new vise might be for welding instead of pictures so let us know what you find out or how it works when you get a chance.

Ex: i did answer about Top's funny looking screws that you and Hemi seem to know what they are. do you or Hemi have a tool you can post a picture of and does that bit come in the assortment of bits in a case or is it a special order because I've never seen one?

Hemi: i do like your avitar. what model 519x is yours?

Top: i ventured into Ebay and look what i found. i think this is a Massey like mine or is it?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Sli...052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1a02d7c5fc

i still don't know how to save full size pictures off of Ebay ads so if anybody does and can post these pictures I'd save them and then blow them up on my laptop to see if it is a Massey.

thanks

VA: still cheaper to fly Balane out to see your chain gang which he might enjoy and then fly him home after he touches them and throws a new coat of oil on them.

BTW your collection isn't too shabby in case you didn't know it.

Looks VERY nice!

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Bagged: i'm not crazy about the color of your new restoration, but i'm guessing it's headed out the door. nice job and you might be getting too picky, but that's not all bad.

bagged89s10,

Nice job on the restore of the Parker No. 33!

Very nice!

Thanks for the comments.
Both will be getting sold after I come back from vacation. I paid so little for these vises and they were good to practice on. I also learned how nicely engineered the Athol is. Are there any other vises out there with finer threads on the lead screw like on this Athol?

Well worth it! Nice find. I wonder why someone cut the end of the nut off. There might be a couple on eBay right now.

DRIVES They are calling the vise on ebay a "sliding" vise. Now I'm really thinking yours is a quick release...

Mines similar. Provided I don't dump it in the house first before moving it to the workshop, she's learned to take little notice of what goes straight down to the workshop. It's amazing how leaving the occasional manky, rusty, oily thing in the corner of the living room can make them suddenly become quite disinterested as long as stuff never comes in the house.

From here to Europe is fairly simple, so I'd assume the reverse isn't too hard. Depends on what quality of postal service they have across there more than owt.
