How do BANNED members find out why?

Hi Everyone, I have been away for awhile. I turned a neighbor onto the GJ and he has been o for a couple years and came down yesterday showing me his screen saying banned for life. He asked me to message a mod and ask. Thanks in advance. John JBW Los Angeles, CA

I've never been banned, so I don't know anything about this, but I'd think that if a site were to ban someone, it would be courteous to send them an email telling them why.

Have you pulled up their stat's and taken a look? The reason might be obvious....

Yes, exactly.

There's also a list of "do not take orders or deliver to..." and a list of names and addresses at my favorite local pizza place.

Yes, courtesy usually has everything to do with it. Meaning the offender had none and likely deserves no explanation for banning because of the offender's discourtesy.

Most forums send a pm /email detailing the offense
Usually it's a day to 3days before a ban for life
Sometimes the mod may click the wrong option, how long ago was he banned? Has he checked pm/email?

I was just running with it. And I agree, it would be nice to know what someone did to get banned. I PM'd one of the mods once and he sent me a list of the "things not to do" on the GJ.

The List was 65 pages long two years ago.....

The list would simply be to big to post. We ban spammers on a daily basis so you add them to the list of say 5 a day do you get an idea how long that list is !

Then there is the Infractions tab

- Example -

Click on your user name in the top right where it says "Welcome USER NAME"

Then click on the "INFRACTIONS" tab and you can view your infractions history.

I have but one. . .and I've almost learned my lesson. . .

If your profile doesn't have the tab your "clean.

They have various levels of banned. Some are temporary, others permanent.

You're more than likely right ddawg, members do not get banned for no apparent reason.

JBW, you've already PMed one Mod and asked for assistance, I'd prefer to let that Mod take care of your issue. If you don't get a response by tomorrow, send me a PM with the information.

You kinda can... they can ban your IP addresses. Happened to me on another forum and even if you try to change names, etc, you are still banned as banned is (it took quite bot to get my rights there reinstated, BTW, even tho I was not the targeted infractioneer). When I was a mod that was SOP to stop known spammers, disruptive sock monkeys, and genuine serious azzhats.

I believe you (and Mod/Admin) can only see your "infractions" tab.

That's the guy. We had a purge of a bunch of long time members a few years ago and Elroy, and Krusty the Clown were the two that I remember leaving at that time.

I've seen the same type of purge happen on other forums as well. I was on the glocktalk reloading forum years ago and the Big purge there even took out a long term moderator.

About a year or two ago I did PM a mod to asked about an OK guy who I thought was banned for a minor infraction. The mod did respond that the ban info is between the mod and the offender only. I doubt a mod will give a reason why the member was banned to a third person. If anything he will probably be told to have the banned person contact the Mod.

Was the issue that the OP and his friend logged on from the same IP?

I've read before about people being banned if they log on with their friend's computer, use their wireless, etc.

Actually you can change your IP if your smart about it. On another forum Im on there was this troll whose entire life was dedicated to arguing with anyone he disagreed with. Seriously guy was a few frys short of a happy meal. They would ban his name, his IP too. BUT since he was using a phone all you have to do is reset it and bingo new IP. Guy finally gave up or has been quiet for awhile.

If you have a dynamic public IP all you have to do is get another one.
