How much redundancy do you have?

Not counting my wife's tools (she has a few screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, etc in the laundry room and a another set in her car), I have 2. One is my "travel set".

Who actually has wire stripper, marine heat shrink and a lighter in their travel tool kit when they go on vacation. It got the boat running !

I do. :ninja:

Last year we needed a thread file for a buggered front hub nut external thread; I had it in my road box...

I'll go against the grain. I hate duplicates within the same theater. I have a set of tools in the truck for general mechanical uses and there's the boxe(s) in the garage for whatever I'm doing. But there's not going to be two 3/8ths combination wrenches anywhere close to each other.

Then how are you going to fix something that needs 2 3/8 open ends? Like a lock nut on a bolt?

2 at the very minimum I'd say, or you're using an adjustable/ViceGrips

Right now I am contemplating buying complete SAE and Metric sets of 6 point and 12 point sockets in deep, mid, and shallow. I almost think I am crazy, but my OCD wants to get er done.

I have two or more sets of the standard stuff (sockets, wrenches, ratchets) but singles of the speciality tools (torque wrenches, amp clamp, air tools).

You probably do not need 2 of everything. But it would be good to have other tools to do another job. I like to keep all of my tools that I used for a job together for later use in assembly. Say then I am waiting on parts and another job comes up. Example, I can switch to using an impact socket with a ratchet and a 4-way wrench to hold the other end of the bolt.

Tools tend to gravitate towards me so redundant is an understatement! About 5 years ago I started my tool roundup and have been staggered at the redundancy.

After 7 sets of 1/4" sockets of American made stuff I still have about half a gallon of orphan or duplicate name brand unsorted !/4" sockets. No name foriegn stuff is close to 4 gallons.

I have 4 post hole diggers! I have 2 valve spring compressors for flathead motors ( I have NO flathead motors!).

15 feet of 1/4" extensions, 60 feet of 3/8". Stuff builds when you find screaming deals too! I was at an estate sale and saw a 1/2" set of Snap-On deep impacts for $10...already had a Proto set and a mix of Williams and Par-X along with a mass of no name that work fine but...$10!

I buy pasture cars and they often have tools that I keep. 1964 Ranchero yielded most of a set of S-K 1/4 and 3/8 sockets (except 1/4" drive 1/4" socket and 10 mm!?!).
A Cougar recently showed up with a bottle of copper anti-seize and a Crescent 3/8ths ratchet.

I have 4 sets of tamper proof torx bits!

You do realize the wrench has both an open end and a box end in the same size right? Just use them at the same time……………….

use the force. :D
You got me thinking.....
When in a pinch cut the wrench so that you can use both sides with a cheater bar if needed. Then when you have time buy a new wrench

I have my tools split between the garage and basement, but have duplicates of the common items (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.) to avoid running back and forth. There's also a small tool kit in each car containing the basics, so I have quadruples of some stuff.
