So I just called for shits & giggles. I just watched an Amy Schumer last night where she loses it after days on hold with India and then goes to India to blow herself away along with the operator who was f***ing w her.
This wasn't much different, but I found humor in the whole thing.
First, I was on the phone for 31:20, so be sure you really have time to kill if you call. There's no doubt this guy was in India, I understood probably 70% of what he said, but hey, that's enough to piece together overall meaning LOL
At first he took forever to look it up and then said my products were not eligible for rebate. I asked what about them was ineligible, and he tried to brush me off to something like homedepot.com.rebates. I acted as though I wrote it down (he told me to), and then kept pressing on what about my products rendered them ineligible.
He put me on hold again and said he was going to refer me to his supervisor (great, maybe the supervisor is Amureecan, like in Outsourced), but after being on hold again for 10+ minutes he came back and said he had "very good news," my rebates had been validated and I could expect something in 4-6 weeks.
Total across all three receipts is only around $8 rebate, but at this point it was just an exercise in curiosity (and calling HD out on their ****).
One thing I found hilarious is that while on hold some of their music isn't half bad and a refreshing twist on elevator music. For instance, there was an orchestral (is that a word?) rendition of Metallica's Unforgiven. It was pretty good actually, and upbeat enough that if you were not a Metallica fan you wouldn't know how dark the song really is.
I got to looking at my rebate form, and nowhere on it does it even mention Menard's, and it doesn't say you have to be near a Menard's. While I understand this is probably the spirit of the rebate program, they could easily specify that only certain states are eligible for the rebate match as Menard's is only in a minority of states. I have not pulled up the most recent rebate form, I am referring to the one I submitted for May purchases.
Point is, if you call and don't give up, you'll get your rebate, but make sure it's worth your time if you're looking at it as a cost-per-hour basis.
