Finally found a drill press vise

Stopped by one of my favored sellers at the flea market yesterday and found this nice Palmgren vise. The upper part is a common design, but I've never seen one that tilted to the side and swiveled.

Those are nice and that is in great condition. It's not a heavy duty vise, but they are great for drilling compound angles. Just make sure you get a good spot drill in there first so it doesn't wander.

That's the vice i have but mine looks like it lived in a cow pie since 1967. Perhaps I'll give it a quick cleanup-paint job now that I see a nice one.

That's a very cool vise! Not only good on the drill press, but very handy holding a work piece to do some Dremel work on.

Interesting! I have the same vise with the fore-aft tilt but I've never seen one which also has a side-to-side tilt.

User tip - It's not a heavy duty vise. The smooth jaws don't have a lot of clamping power. in addition to having the drill spot punched, securely clamp the vise to the table and tighten your tilt clamping cap screws and the vise screw. Any looseness is magnified by the height of the vise and all the fasteners.

Good points. For most machinists type vises I tend to prefer aluminum jaws (for what I work on at least) because it's softer and tends to have a bit more grab than smooth steel jaws. Never a bad idea to have both on hand.
