So can you tell us how you were lucky enough to be selected to be on the show? I was thinking the show was based on people that had a bunch of cars, but none of them were really nice show cars or drivers. Do you have a salvage yard someplace with all the junkers and parts cars?:D

Herb
I can answer all those questions after the show airs

Sorry man

So is the vette done ?

Vernmotor
Good to hear from you again.
No the corvette is not done, but I am ordering exhaust for it tonight. I have been sorting out a painless wiring harness system for the last few days, I'm closing in on that so I am now focused on the chassis and doing everything that can be done to it while the body is off

The days of wiring up a car.... This wasn't as "painless", but I did finish it in about three months time!

I don't envy the process Don :)

Thanks for that little encouragement Simon.
The advantage that I have is the body is sitting on a rotisserie
meaning that I can stand upright with my head under the dash to route and locate the wires.Much better than lying on my back with my feet in the air
(can't get pic's to post tonight)

I'll try to find some time this week to play in the party garage and document the new stuff. I can't do anything with the car til the show airs so don't expect to see it yet.:dunno::dunno:

Softtail

If you are thinking about the 1970 elcamino (chevelle) It' still 1/2 done sitting on the shelf
My car collection has shrunk by 10 cars over the last year however mostly projects that I knew that I wouldn't get to any time soon Here is the list
A 31 model A 5 window coupe
40 ford 4 door sedan
40 ford p/u
55 chev belair 2dr ht
56 ford p/u
56 cad coupe deville
56 lincoln continental
57 lincoln continental
61 chev belair
81 toyota p/u
None of these were taken by the show

If a guy in the UK was to look at the t.v guide it would give a clue
Will they play any RHCP songs during the show?

I know a way that's easier than that, ....... let someone else do it:rocker:

But what is the fun in that? At least this way if any of the magic smoke comes out he has no one else to blame. With his meticulous attention to detail I'm sure it'll turn out great.

Thanks for the hot tip, I may have to either get cable or find this online to watch it and see our "local" celebrity.

So can you tell us how you were lucky enough to be selected to be on the show?

You can apply to be on the show if you want.

http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/lords-of-the-car-hoards/season-2-casting/

"Are you an extreme car collector? Has your car collection gotten a little out of control? Are you sitting on a heap of cars that are gathering rust, dust and is getting rid of them simply a must?

Do your friends, family or neighbors think you have way too many vehicles? Do you have one car in partiuclar that you consider to be your prized possession? Does that vehicle have an interesting story/history behind it?

Would you consider selling off your collection to pay for a full restoration of that one prized possession...done by vintage carguru Rick Dore and former WWE wrestler Chuck Palumbo?

IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW, THEN WE'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We are seeking car collectors in Southern California, Las Vegas and Phoenix that have over 20 cars in their collection and may be ready to get rid of some or all of them."

I will be watching for the show when it airs. Seems like something that should be on SPIKE

I would be a candidate but I am not in the right geographical area.

I'm not in the right area either. I don't have enough cars, just 19. And the cars that are junk, aren't worth much either. I seem to have stuff no one wants, like 49 Dodge business coupe, 55 Chevy, 4door, 71VW bus. Maybe one of these days they will do a hit movie and everyone will want my 49 Dodge:dunno:

I let the guy with small hands do the tight stuff

I don't see the similarity there :dunno::dunno:
But my wife did look up your T.V. guide on the internet and all she will say is Oh my

I didn't solicit these guys, and I sure don't fit those requirements
but they got me anyway. The show should be pretty good though.

Hey Herb
That 49 business coupe can be made into a pretty cool hotrod and your 4 door could be cut down and made into a shorty s door and be real crazy!!

Is that a Dakota Digital gauge set? or the OG, can't see in that picture. I always liked the speedo on the early Vette's.

Tape it and sell the vid. I'm sure there would be lots of takers me included.

If you can do that I will be your first customer

Herb
Yes that's a Dakota Digital dash.
I had it built for the car in the late 90's and forgot all about it until it came time to put in the gages. We looked for the gages for a week before discovering the Dakota box I was getting really pissed at myself for loosing the gages along with several other parts, Having torn the car apart 20 years ago and then moving 30 miles away to my new garage and storing things in several different places around here .
plus I have parts all over the place for,
the 70 elcamino
the 59 corvette
the 41 ford sedan delivery
and the coe

All torn down and in some state of restoration

Those gauges will turn up once you have it finished.

Oh I finally found the box with the gages in it they are the Dakota gages
i forgot that I had sent the old gages out to make them digital

I have also found the radiator after buying a new polished one and the headlight switch and cigar lighter and wiper switch

I can't wait to post pictures of it but I have to wait til it shows here.
Was the show any good??

I enjoyed the show, but then I enjoy any of the shows with hot rods in them, but like any of these type of shows, you need to have an open mind in some aspects of them.

Nice article, Don. Glad to see they printed plenty of photos, only way to do your place justice.

Don, are you holding out on us? Near the end of that article is a picture of a very nice finished COE that looks a lot like the incomplete one you've shown in your other tread.

CONGRADULATIONS:beer: Read the article from Australia, it was a nice spill about you and the misses.
Not only you are nation wide, but now you are WORLD WIDE. Now I can say I know a famous guy, kindda, he acknowledges me on The Garage Journal and replies to my post. He hasn't forgotten the little people ... yet!:D
Man that's some good stuff having people on the other side of the globe read about you. And next your on TV getting a cool car built for you. "Life's great"
What makes it twice as nice is you have a wife that enjoys the same but different stuff. Her collection fits in with yours, and she has a nice place to display her dolls. This way is better than having it in a box stacked out in the garage.
That was a very nice write up about your empire.

Sorry I'm so late getting back with you guys
I just spent the last 4 days at the Colorado river
Working on my boat dock in 109 -111 degree weather

Nicely done Don.
Also some good reading on some Aussie events.

Thanks Simon

David does a nice job with his magazine.
He prints it in Australia and New Zealand

Nice article, Don. Glad to see they printed plenty of photos, only way to do your place justice.

Thanks Toolfool
I was pleased with his shots

Wow Don,

Thanks Hugo
It's neat having something others enjoy (like your Texaco garage)

I proudly call you my friend and life is good. The T.V. gig was a fluke!
In my business life, I got to know several good guys from down under and it was very flattering to be written about and remembered so many years later.
And yes it is much more rewarding being able to share my hobby with my wife at my side
Thank you so much for the visit

Now that's one fantastic write up Don, well done.
Regards

Thanks 1/2 Cup
I do feel a bit connected with you guys down there

Don,

You sir are inspiring. You are living the dream man...

Awesome Garage!! I just spent the last couple weeks, on & off reading through all of the pages! WOW i am impressed with all that you do and how you explain how you do things.

I love the way you tell a story, from going out and picking to bringing home your gems, to restoring and displaying them!

And the Cars! wow Awesome collection!

I'm in Anaheim, so not too far at all, Matter of fact i'll Be in Corona this Friday & Sat for Wedding.

Would love to stop by some time and meet you & get a tour.

Take Care and keep the updates coming.
