I've got a Zyliss I picked up a year or so ago stil in the box for $5. I've not used it yet, but a friend had one for wood working and used the daylights out of it.

I got around to moving my finished vises to a metal rack from the plastic one that crashed a few weeks ago. It is secured to the studs with about a dozen 1/4" screws and an extra brace in the front center. It should be OK to put some more small ones up top.

CW & Outlaw: if you watch the video you'll see why i bought mine and use it. i'm not nearly as quick as the guys in the videos, but the Zyliss vise does have a lot of options.

Get: WOW those vises look awesome and happy to see they have a better safer spot to sit now. i still like the Parker on the stand you modified with a weight plate. nice work

Drives, that is a FLEXIVISE made in California. That's funny you mentioned the Parker, I was thinking about working on it next and took the green paint out of the cabinet I bought for it.

The packaging only added about 8lbs. The Athol 623 only weighs 27.5lbs.
The total package weight ended up being 35lbs total.

CW: Heck you might have a collectable. my 30 year old Zyliss has a plastic handle. pictures? in one of the Zyliss videos the guy is pulling an old one out of the box that has a wood handle. it's amazing how well built they are and they are tough too.

Bagged: can you give the size of the box you ended up using and the shipping company and cost to ship? i hear if you sell on Ebay that they get discounted shipping and i still see shipping costs for $150+ on some vises. i'm guessing you vise is in the $70 range to ship maybe with UPS or Fed Ex? nice packing job and the new owner will thank you.

It only cost less than $25 to ship from CT to PA via FedEx home delivery. I paid for insurance just incase. One reason I like to sell smaller vises with the low weights.

I have a couple of the profi-king plus zyliss vises. The video will make you wonder how you ever got along without one! I picked mine up second hand so I didn't pay the home show prices.

Amazing capabilities. I have attached 2 to my Keter portable work table and I've been very pleased with the results. Obviously not quite as beefy as my Reed 4C but I can throw a Zyliss in a tool bag and have it with me for remote projects. There are a couple of copies out there including the one in the video which is a Z-vise. Swissrex makes one that looks more sturdy but does all the same things as the Zyliss.

I just shipped a 55 lb package from WI to southern IN, it was $29 through fed ex. I used my own box and packaging

Thanks. I have one other paramo but this one has the slide running along at 45 degrees. Just different to the ones I've seen before.
Think I may need to purchase as it's unusual for my collection!!

I think the 1930 patent was for the swivel base hold down nut. The wrench was retained on the nut with the spring ring on top so it wouldn't come off. I would guess the molds wore out after awhile and the date was not put back on or the patent expired ?

Mine have the wrench with the nut with the spring ring on top to hold the wrench on too.

I've been in communication with a seller regarding a charles parker model H. I can't find any info on it, I was looking at the info page at http://scuttle.dayid.org/wiki/index.php/Charles_Parker_Vise but all of the models are numerical, not alphabetical. I think it has quick release due to the lever beside the handle but I don't really know.

What you are thinking is the lever is not, it is the collar that holds on the main screw. Probably turn of the (last) century of so. There were some letter vises, (not H) in a 1902 catalog.

This may be the vise that was discussed in this thread a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks McBownie! That's exactly the info I was looking for. I agree on the handle. I don't like the handle on my 974 with the peened ends but I really like the vise. I thought about maybe putting a round nose handle on it.
Do you know if the action is as tight on the older 974s like it is on the newer 974s?

Here is my as Parker 974 being used in the condition as I bought it.
Right now it's just clamped to my bench with big *** c-clamps.

Thanks. The other Parker 974 I have is surprisingly even better. I started stripping that one down to paint. I'm going to paint the other one and keep it.

I'd like to find a slightly larger swivel base Parker too, but as you said, only if it's clean.

Take a photo of the underside of the vice. The quick release lever, it's spring and the halfnut etc. are the bits of interest. Might just be gunged up, the spring tension could need tweaking, the springs hook may have snapped off, (the little hook where it latches onto the nub on the front plate). A photo or two of the underside will help.
