I was reading the manual for my Carrier 38GS-042 series condenser unit (fan went out last night) and saw this gem. Thought some of you might get a kick out of this.

Compressor Removal (See Table 7 for compressor information and Fig. 5 for component location.)
1. Shut off power to unit. Vent refrigerant to atmosphere or use refrigerant removal methods shown in Carrier Standard Service Techniques Manual, Chapter 1.

but how old is the instructions?

That revision is 1975. My HO inspector stated the build date of my unit was 71. I thought he mistyped the report as the home was built in 81, but now I'm not so sure. Thing is a tank. Had to replace the run capacitor today since it popped last night. Cleaned it up, replaced the cap and some rotten wires, and she's purring like a kitten again.

That is awesome! So I have to ask, does my 200lb *** need to stand on a 2'10" bar so I don't over-torque it?

For a long time the blue prints for towers we were installing talked about torque specs and it said for a normal sized man to tighten by using an 18" wrench. Or something like that. :dunno:

I come across condensors on a weekly basis running in a vacuam,no Freon to vent here folks.;)
When People ask me why its not cooling I just point at the gauges and tell them theres your problem.

Nope, that's not the problem, just a symptom. The problem is the leak and it rarely gets fixed. That is a problem.

I wonder if normal size is the scrawny 70yr old guy that used to do my alignments that could bust 150lbft nuts loose with a 12" ratchet, or that guy asking about gym mirrors who is 5'6" and can bench 265. :dunno:

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
