I picked up 3 Record catalogues last year, No 14 and No 16 pocket editions and the No 17 full size hard back.

No 14 Copyright 1935

No 16 Copyright 1950

No 17 Copyright 1963

The full size hard back has much nicer pictures than the small pocket editions.

Which Record do you have?

Hi CW,
I have the following:

Record No. 1 (Retired for a while)
Record No. 3 (In the Farm at home)
Record No. 4 (Going on my welding bench)
Record No. 34 (My Favorite - building a new bench to house it when the welding bench is finished)

That's a striking and handsome setup bagged. Nice work on everything.

Thanks for the compliments. I think I will use better wood next time. This works though for display or selling purposes. I used free 2x10s I got from lowes which are slightly warped. Maybe I'll use double thick 3/4" hardwood plywood that I have for the Parker No. 2 mounting base.

Picked up the Parker 383-1/2" today.

Only thing wrong is the pin is frozen right now. It's soaking in atf/acetone right now.

Bagged check your local carpenters guild, those men usually have slabs of great wood cured out cheaper than you can buy any where. I bought this slab for 7 bucks. It's perfect for a vise base or two and it's 9 quarter

Maybe a 4" Reed (204) ?
It's hard to tell from the picture, but check to see if the support under the dynamic jaw is missing. I can't quite see it there.

The vise on the far right on the bench is in an estate sale tomorrow. Can anyone identify it for me beforehand?
I'd agree; looks like the D. Jaw support broke off. Check out the plane next to it.

The miter saw frame looks interesting in the lower left;

Finished a lil bull dog 90. A bit too much black for my taste but I seldom get to choose any more.

I can't make it Saturday due to plans so I'm hoping the owner responds to my email.

I like it  That is probably very close to being what the vise looked like new on the shelf. Is that what your customer requested?

Here are a couple photos of a hand saw vise I purchased from Mike in Ohio. He had already cleaned it so I just gave it a rinse and sprayed it with Rustoleum primer and gloss black. Planning to use it with an old cross-cut saw I need to restore. Jaws are 9.5", no maker's mark.

Thanks to everyone about the vise. I'll check carefully.

I've looked closely at all tools on this picture - will probably pick up the hatchet, plane, and the miter saw.

BTW, there are several other pictures with old tools - each one has more tools that are desirable than doe this picture - I expect to have a nice Garage Sale posting tomorrow.

Picked up a pair off Craigs earlier this week for $15. Couldn't pass up the cute Dunlap. Any thoughts on a maker for the other? 6in and heavy? The tag is only stamped 2480 at the bottom. I'm thinking it would have had some type of decal/paint on the tag?
PS. Now Bagged has me thinking I need to head up to West Boylston.

Yes I think you should go grab those 4 vises since I can't make it. I told Joestriper about it to but I don't think he can go either.

The vise is a Rock Island priced @ $100.00 - too much for today - if it's still there tomorrow at half, I'll probably get it.

Price for the miter box and saw was also too much for today.

Got the hatchet (two in fact), and the plane , which is a Stanley #5 Type 11 in VG condition.

Much more to come later on Garage Sale 2015. :D:D:D

One of my vicemen has two vises he's looking to move quick in the Springfield MA area Saturday then heading up to lake Sunapee tomorrow or in East Bridgewater today. 4" massey and 4" Rock Island. $110 for the pair, sold as the pair only.

Also, I packed my Reed 107 and 7" leg vise on a pallet. Any suggestions? what a pain in the *** I tell you. the handles are secure and the vises are securely bolted.

Joe: can you post a few more pictures of the pallet of the 2 big vises? it looks like your BS vise has the post hanging over. if it does i'd make your pallet longer because the shipping company will probably charge you for that length anyway. also i'm not sure i'd only have a couple 1 x 4's holding down big Reed 107. it's great you have it bolted and cinched down, but those are big dang vises and some fork lift drivers don't take their job seriously.

How would you recommend I secure the Reed better? The pallet is oak and I ran 3 1/2 carriage bolts through the pallet and through the 2x8s. I also screwed the pallet 1x4 wood into the frame as additional security. Maybe some lagged eyebolts into the frame and a ratchet strap across the anvil??? I agree that the 1x 4 pallet wood is the weak link. I am far less concerned about the blacksmith vise. That's bolted down pretty good with squared off 7/16th suspension bolts and it has a lower center of gravity. Also no part of ANY vise hangs over the pallet, thats just an optical illusion. Here's a fuzzy pic

I welcome ANY feedback.:willy_nil

I just saw it in person and it doesn't hang over the pallet. It's looks secure.

Joe: the new picture shows me that you have 2 x 8's under the pallet's 1 by's so looks a lot better. i also couldn't see the end of the blacksmith vise, but looks like it's one of the shorter ones and you put a 2 x 8 bumper out where it might get hit.

if Bagged looked at it and you are happy with it i'd say it's good to go. is it going via Fastenal or some other company?

i was only trying to help with the little information you originally posted. it takes me almost a day or sometimes longer to get a vise ready to ship on a pallet and i'm guessing it took you some time to do what you did too. i might get it done faster, but not while my tools and supplies are in several places.

good luck and also one lucky buyer

I found a Parker 52 vise that I haven't found a picture of in Google Images.

Fi%20P1100337.jpg

Curved jaws.
Fi%20P1100341.jpg

The dynamic jaw is made to swivel, but a broken bolt that keeps it in place needs to be addressed.
Fi%20P1100340.jpg

Bottom view. Should there be a swivel base, or ....?
Fi%20P1100338.jpg

The dynamic jaw does not move with the turning of the handle/screw. The 'nut' is not held to the fixed jaw body.
Fi%20P1100339.jpg

Something tells me a pin is missing that holds the 'nut' to the body; as evidenced by the hole in the bottom center of the 'slide' outer edge.
Fi%20P1100343.jpg

Fi%20P1100344.jpg

Fi%20P1100342.jpg

:Help:
Any ideas where to find more information on this curious C Parker vise?

Thanks.

I take no umbrage at your suggestions. the 2x8s are ON TOP of the 1x4s. I am going to ratchet it with a lag bolt in the frame. I will feel better about it.

It is going via large freight carrier Old Dominion. The buyer's sister works for them. Family discount.

Thanks!

Chilly: Wilton's C series vises are their best that i know of so not sure you can have too many of them and nice price too.

DOC: your old parker's vise nut is missing a pin to hold it in place and happy to hear you have it out of the static. is the vise nut still stuck on the main screw? for that vise it has something similar to the Reed i bought so a bolt and a huge wing nut and some sort of way to stop it from spinning is in your future. sorry to see the pin is busted off on the dynamic swivel because that is REALLY unique. nice find all in all and a little time and you'll have a nice old rare vise.

Joe: good luck

Joe, here's a pic of a Prentiss 58 I shipped last year. Ignore the blue strap. It was just to keep it from sliding around on the trailer. I used two ratcheting straps and some zip ties on the handle so it wouldn't move. Steel banding straps would be better, but I didn't have any.

It shipped via Dominion and I had no problems with them. In fact it was so easy that I'd rather ship via freight than any other method.
