Alright so Im getting out of the Navy in about a month and will be working at a heavy equipment shop. When I joined I got rid of most of my tools that weren't your normal home mechanics tools as in all my nice air ratchets and impacts and what have you. So I had to replace all of that and then added a few others to get what I will mosty need once I get out. Although ill add more lol.

I am trying to teach my sons to never sell your tools, hopefully they listen to the old man. I sold all of mine at around 24 and I had a nice setup then. It took me a long time to get back to the where I was

Wished I had sold some of mine before I went to the Navy. I came back home years later and somehow moisture had found its way to them. A lot of stuff was eaten up with rust. It was most of my Craftsman which back then was strictly all USA made.

I still use those sockets for **** jobs and on select family member's stuff.

Nice looking tools in your new collection.

for long term/unknown length storage, cover all your tools in grease and wrap in plastic bags, all it takes to clean them is a lot of rags

I have sold machine equipment and although I missed my mill and lathe, it was the right thing to do at the time. But I never sold my hand tools, just too hard/expensive to replace and you just never know when you're going to need them. I have a mill, couple of lathes, drill press; basically a home machine shop once again and keeping my tooling paid off BIG TIME.

If I don't need them anymore, I'll sell everything but one of my lathes and I can live with that, but I don't want to be without a lathe ever again.

They're tools. I've sold the majority of mine three times since about 1986.Redirected career and land acquisitions.
No problem.
The good companies are still around and Taiwan has made it easier(and cheaper) than ever before.God Bless Taiwan !

I love my Milwaukee and Gearwrench stuff.....but I think on GJ it's been discussed that those Cal-Hawk/Wisdom swivels blow apart. Or maybe I'm totally mistaken.

Oh yea, those Astro 1/4" universals are great too. But I did notice my 5/16 is a little looser than it should be after moderate use. I got the Snappies as well to compare to FWIW...

EDIT: If you have time, I'd return the air hammer and buy a CP zip gun (rivet hammer) off ebay for ~$65 or so. They are 10x the hammer.

None actually. Their wrenches are totally necessary for bikes though.Nobody else supplies it.
Why the sarcasm ? Everyone makes good tools. The Taiwan stuff makes it easy for a young guy to build a kit without selling his soul to a guy with a truck or Visa-Mastercard, Inc.

Those Astro 1/4" universals are great but you should check the tightness on the set screws - they have a tendency to loosen up and sometimes fall out. I took the screws out from each one and put some red locktite on them to help prevent loosening up and potentially falling out.

3/4" Impact Gun? What do you work on at the house that requires that? New IR Impact is more than enough torque to but nuts in HD trucking.

You know, my personal set had a similar issue. Let me see if I can change how these are put together at all.

The 7407 and 7412 are now being made with loctite on every fastener standard, no cost increase on your end.

Took a week, but I got'er done.
