Where to buy welding leads?

Well how the story goes is my ole man recently bought a new portable welder/generator (miller bobcat I think) and he gave me a call and asked if i wanted his old portable machine (miller charger?? 200A DC machine genset/battery chager off a sign truck).

Price is right (was told to come haul it off, he keeps the trailer and the leads) as I am in need of a welder for projects and I need a generator as we live in tornado alley and have well water. I figured i would atleast start a welder up enough to keep the battery maintained and gas fresh compared to a stand alone generator.

SO...I have a welder, gotta go get it. I'll CL a trailer or go get it in my spare truck.

BUT I need leads for it. I know i can go to the local welding supply and get them but figured someone here may know of a place online to get a deal.

Where is a guy to get a good deal on about 100' of #2 (Lincoln's website had a chart showing #2 is what I need for 50' leads @ 200A ect...)??

Pretty much any welding store will sell/make you some leads. Shipping on that much copper tends to kill most good internet buys. Tractor supply sells leads by the foot and you can buy the end on Amazon for a good price.

Local is better. They may be slightly cheaper online but you can't actually lay hands on it until it arrives. Besides, if you're gonna do a fair amount of welding, building a good relationship with your local welding shop is a very good idea. They can be very helpful and offer you discounts if they so desire.

Call stumpfs in mascoutah IL. They always have the best price on lead.

My local welding supply has better prices than I can find anywhere, including Freight by the Bay. Even stuff like US made MIG wire is cheaper at the welding store than the non US wire at HF, and that's even if I use a 20% coupon at HF.

Ebay is your friend for cable. I would think about going a bit heavier in cable......maybe 1/0. Bigger wire won't hurt. A couple 25ft long whip cables would also be nice.

Electron beam technology. Watch for the monthly sales. I believe anything over $250 ships free. Considerably cheaper than anything local for me.

Definitely check out eBay!!! I've bought numerous coils of electrical wiring, including welding leads off of eBay and the prices usually can't be beat!! Often, price per foot is the lowest anywhere for name-brand cable and shipping is often free!
