Look inside your engine compartment, do you see any threaded studs with external Torx heads on the end? My Buick has them everywhere.

They won't be E12 though. unless it was an M12 thread of something..

I got'm in all different sizes in there. There's lots of components that slide over the studs and then are secured with nuts. I'm always fearful of loosening a nut and have the stud turn with it, but so far that hasn't happened.

If i recall correctly, some are needed for airbags too.
I have a Snap-on E4-E10 deep 1/4" set.

my engine compartment has a 3400 V6 (waiting for the lower manifold gasket to leak
...) but all i see is 8mm 10mm 13mm and 15mm....i have seen external torx on seat bolts in cadilacs at work...but thats all ive seen em...that and *? polydrive ?* as its shown on wiki under the torx section. I hadnt seen them anywhere else so i was asking why the need for a swivel when a normal external torx socket fit fine...im sure theres plenty of applications...i was just wondering where, so i can be prepared

Polydrive are only found on certain VW-Audi engines for their headbolts, they use a #10 Polydrive. As far as i know, that's the only size they come in. You also get Ribe which is very similar, found mostly on Italian cars.

thats what i thought....but the back bolts for the front seat looked exactly like polydrive...and when i asked what socket it was the mechanic mentoring me "i have no f***ing idea what that is or what its called but this is what you use..." and handed me a socket from a no name brand with what looked to be external torx with rounded corners in the socket...it was weird if i ever see that again ill be sure to take pics

GM uses a torx plus female for the seat. Vim Makes one but with shipping cost the snap on is cheaper you might find a vim on ebay I found one at a flea market bought it.
Their is apparently two sizes but the small one is for a Nissan.
