I've got a '77 Special Edition T/A (or, if you insist, a Smokey/Bandit). Bought it in '79 from original owner and has been stored ever since. Will need a full restoration but it is all original except for the oil filter. Has 32k miles and is one of 2202 built with 4 speed and Hurst T-tops and has correct Pontiac engine. And of course, it is black and gold! Hope to work on it in about a year.
Not yet but I will have one. The smokey and the bandit Trans Am was "it" for me when I first got into cars. Have had the opportunity to buy a number of them in my younger years for what seemed like a lot of money back then. In comparison to today's prices on them, I should have bought them all! The 77-78 are by far my favorites.
Your '79 is no slouch though!![]()
Have a white 78 T/A. 455, auto. Wife drives a 69 Firebird 400 Convertible.. Has aftermarket 5 Speed and AC.
I've never had one, and probably never will. But here's a story that should amuse you fans. Around 1980, when I was going to university (commuting on the bus and subway) there were a couple of 12 - 14 year old boys behind me on the bus. One asked the other, "What colour of Trans Am are you going to own when you grow up?" Not what kind of car, that was a given.
I was about to ask why this was in the tools section but that would be mean.
Just joking, the first car I fell in love with was a Formula Firebird, seventy-something.
not exactly on topic but......
Have never owned one but when I was a teenager in the 70s, I used to regularly walk by a Pontiac dealership and occasionally read window stickers and wonder if I'd ever have enough money to buy a car--any car.
Plus, why did GM kill Pontiac when at least they had some exciting products and a great history.
As close as I can get, is the 1979 Z-28 I took to England in 1981...
The English loved it...
Except for the elderly gentleman, who wanted to know---"Who owns this ****** Angry Motorcar???....
The Z-28's handled a lot better than the TA's, due to the 200 pound lighter motors...
