debating modifying my new post and beam sugar house

So my wife and I purchased a new home in June, on the property came a nice 20x28 post and beam building that was a working sugar shack, I don't plan to sugar and majority of equipment was sold. I'd like expand the back to make room for a lift and a automotive door. It has a small barn type door that I drive my John Deere 318 through.

It's an awesome structure but with no car door it's a fancy storage building.

To the left I am putting my 14x28 storage building/garage.

If you can figure out how to install a garage door header while supporting the existing framing then you are good to go. It might be really easy if the post & beam structure already supports the building and has enough clearance under it.

There are two master builders in town that do post and beam so I have asked for some imput from them.

that should be very simple and straight forward. Above the door and window, there should be a beam running from wall to wall, acting as the top plate/headers that the studding is attached to, remove the trim around the man door and window and some of the siding to expose the framing and you will see what ya have to work with. Lay out where ya want the overhead door and frame it up.

I'd UPSIZE the addition you're planning on the left side. Make it 2 story and drive-thru with doors on both ends. With the taller open structure, you could have a car lift in there. That would look a lot better than another free-standing shed next to the cool sugar shack.

By salvaging the exterior boards from left side, you can use those on front and keep the look of "sugar shack" intact. New exterior on left side won't be so noticeable since trees are there . . . but I'd go with board & batten.

By-the-way, WHERE in world are you to have "sugar shack" . . . only place I've seen sugar grown is Hawaii . . . or are you in Brazil ??

I'm sure he means maple sugar. Those sugar shacks are very common up here and through many of the northern states. Most are not as nice as his, unfortunately. Location in his profile is a good idea though.

I updated it, I live along the CT/Ma border near Barkhampsted Resvoir, but on the Mass side.

In post and beam construction the walls are not load bearing.
You should be able to just remove the wall and build a frame for the new door.

Yeah, planning on contacting the two post and beam builders in town and go from there. I'd like to incorporate the storage building but it's T111 sided and gambriel roofed so it would be tough but as with everything $'s solve that issue.

That does not look like T1-11
T1-11 comes in 4x8 sheets and is meant to imitate the real board and batten siding you have.

Just an FYI - sugar can/is grown in temperate climates. It's grown here in California and other states from sugar beets rather than sugar cane. I worked at a sugar factory here in California for a time...
