I am just starting to build up a tool set and I have some questions. I have a Mac Tech Series 1000 and I am wondering how old it is. I have Kobalt tools in it that seem to work pretty good. I would love to pick up some Mac tools, but those are out of my price range. I am new to the Garage Journal, but I like it here. Where is the best place to find Mac tools? Here is the box

Idk about the box. But out of curiosity, do you go to yard sales and/or fleamarkets? Because I've found a lot of truck brand (and their industrial counterpart) tools at yard sales. In fact, just picked up a small lot last weekend (Matco t50 socket, proto 10mm hex socket, Armstrong clamp, William's 1/2" extension and a really long 3/8" Mac extension. Also, some HUGE channellock-style pliers and a USA rivet gun.) $15.

Think about building your tool inventory as a hobby. Take your time with the hunt.
Scour CL for yard sales that look like they have some quality tools. I have my best luck at estate sales, but you have to get there very early to beat the flippers.

Building up your tools will be a lifetime endeavor.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Garage sales and craigslist would be my first suggestions as well. You can even check eBay there are some good deals on there sometimes. But the best suggestion I can make, from someone who is doing the same thing, is take your time. There are a lot of tools out there, buy what you need, and wait for the ones that you don't.

Around here people hold on to tools. Even cheap ones. I have found some tools on ebay such as pliers and channel lock brand pliers. I have $150 in my box and I want to get some add ons like a side box for it. I may repaint it. I have been scouring ebay for tools, but nothing real great has come up lately. I am trying to get organized right now. I use my tools and I like to be able to find them. I am really wanting a set of Mac knucklesavers.

$150 for a Tech 1000, even an older one, is freaking spectacular. Fill out the location in your profile so it shows on your posts and I bet someone local to you will reach out with some good tool sources near you.

I updated my location. I jumped on the box. I had to get a key and some drawer liners, but it is in decent shape. It has some scrapes, but no missing parts.

I had that same box. Got it new in 2003. I sold it a few years back for 1700. Mine was in better condition. You did VERY GOOD for 150.

I could not pass it up. I traded some stuff I had no money in and $150 cash. I got it from a friend who needed something smaller. He got my Harbor Freight service cart in the trade. It was free to me. All the drawers work and the locking mechanism works perfectly. I neeeeeeed to fill it!!!!!!!
